Pros
1
Experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated attorneys who work hard to achieve favorable outcomes for clients
“Alyson Scholl is the consummate professional in every sense of the word. I only regret I didn't get to see her in action in the court room. Clearly it wasn't necessary, as her results speak for themselves.”
2
Caring and compassionate approach, treating clients like family
“Charlotte is exceptional and is not afraid to put in the hard work and advocate to help her clients. She sincerely cares about her clients and gives them hope to move forward through difficult experiences.”
3
Strong communication and responsiveness, keeping clients informed throughout the process
“Alyson Scholl was amazing. I felt heard and that she had my children's best interest at heart. She was always honest and forthcoming with information and made herself readily available for any questions or concerns I may have had.”
4
Successful track record of achieving desired outcomes for clients, including custody and divorce cases
“With Charlotte however, I was confident that she would aggressively fight to secure the most advantageous outcome possible and in turn she inspired confidence in me to fight, at a time when I felt utterly defeated.”
5
Reasonable and transparent pricing, with no hidden fees
“Charlotte's fee was more than fair. She and her assistant Natalie answered all of my many questions promptly and kept me fully aware of the status of my case.”
Cons
1
Occasional lack of responsiveness and communication issues
“I called 3 times, spoke with the assistant, never got a call back from the attorney, then they wouldn't even answer my calls! Horrible service imo.”
2
Concerns about attorney competence and attention to detail in some cases
“This turned out to not be the case, and was simply her being lazy. The emails with Charlotte is the only reason the judge overturned the ruling (several years later).”
3
Potential for high legal costs, especially in complex or contested cases
“I wasn't given any hope from previous council and decided to go with the BEST! I sure am glad that I did! But it wasn't cheap.”

I used this law firm for a custody case and was more than satisfied with my experience! Allyson Scholl was the attorney for my case and I absolutely adored her. She answered every question I had, kept me very up to date through the process, was very good as far as getting in contact with her, and was so kind and understanding of my circumstances. She advocated for me and my son better than I could ever have imagined and went above and beyond. She is amazing when it comes to making a deal and will truly do everything to the best of her ability I have no doubt about that. Thank you to Allyson Scholl for all you did for us! I recommend her to anyone that may need assistance with a custody case she is amazing!

I worked with Allison and she was fantastic, she helped me gain joint custody of the kids and walked me through what I needed, she was fantastic and I’m grateful I followed her lead so I would be able to have equal time with the kids.

Allison is one in a million! I spoke with her for over an hour about an extremely complicated case and she offered hope and insight, something I was desperate for! I would highly recommend her to anyone! It was obvious she knows the law, she exudes confidence but her delivery was so caring and genuine that it was in no way off putting.

Mr. Moore helped me with a case that took almost 2 years to settle. Each and every time I called his office I either spoke with him or he returned my call the same day. I hardly ever spoke to an associate or his assistant. He puts a lot of emphasis on talking with his clients and keeping them informed. He is also very knowledgable about the law. I have recommended him to everyone I know that has a worker's comp case or a car wreck. Me and my family will use Mr. Moore for all legal stuff that may come up.

I was introduced to Hunter Garnett by a co-worker in reference to an ongoing class action lawsuit. Hunter carefully walked me through the claims process and ensured that my information was appropriately submitted. Hunter’s attention to detail and diligence with requesting the appropriate information from me ensured the successful addition to the class action. I will utilize Hunter again if requires legal assistance. True professional.

Hunter came to my rescue after an auto accident where I sustained a traumatic brain injury. While working through the case, he showed compassion and patience during each conversation, worked tirelessly through the details, and provided guidance with great integrity. He made sure the case closed with my greater good in mind. Now, 3 1/2 years after healing has occurred, I look back and marvel even more at how well he served me when I would not have known otherwise.

I'm writing this review because I was just thrilled to speak with Mr. Dezenberg. He is someone that will get me through this rough patch that I am going through. He was so kind, and friendly and had great conversational skills just on life. You don't meet those types of people all the time we even talked about sports. I dealt with a bankruptcy lawyer before and he was a nightmare and his staff was from hell too. But I give Mr. Dezenberg and his staff 5 stars for being top knotch. Thanks, Kristian

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Huntsville, Alabama?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
