The True Guardian of Justice!!!! I cannot express enough how eternally grateful I am to Jamie Ratliff. She is truly a miracle worker, and there is no one else I would have wanted fighting by my side during the most crucial battle of my life — gaining full custody of my children. For years, I endured false accusations from my children's mother that painted me as something I was not. Despite my every effort to prove my innocence and be the father my kids deserve, I was met with roadblock after roadblock. I felt like the system was against me — until I met Jamie Ratliff. From our very first conversation, I knew Jamie was the fighter I needed. She listened intently, thoroughly reviewed the years of complexities in my case, and gave me a clear, strategic path forward. Her passion for justice is undeniable. Every step of the way, she demonstrated unwavering dedication, expert knowledge, and the kind of tireless work ethic that only the best of the best possess. Jamie fought tooth and nail in court, cutting through the lies and distortions with her brilliant legal mind. She exposed the truth in ways that no one else had ever managed to do before. Her attention to detail and ability to piece together a compelling case left the opposing side scrambling. She didn’t just defend me — she empowered me to finally reclaim my role as the father my children desperately needed. Jamie made it clear that she wasn’t just fighting for me — she was fighting for my kids' future. The outcome? Full custody. I’m not just a dad anymore — I am the dad with full custody of my children, able to raise them in a safe, loving, and supportive environment. This victory is more than I could have ever hoped for, and it would not have been possible without Jamie. If you’re looking for an attorney who is relentless, compassionate, and willing to go to the ends of the earth to fight for your rights, Jamie Ratliff is your only option. She is the absolute best of the best, and she restored not just my faith in the legal system, but my future as a father. Thank you, Jamie, for giving me my life back. My children and I will forever be in your debt. Highly, highly recommend!

Jamie Ratliff would not be in my choices of lawyers after how I seen her treat a case.

Jamie has been mine and my husband’s attorney for over two years. In this time we have been to court 3+ times over custody of his middle child. Each time we have gotten more than we had before! She has listened to our concerns, worked with us and tried to work with opposing counsel for settlements, was honest about her thoughts and concerns with us, and fought hard for what was best for the child. In the end, she succeeded. We couldn’t be happier with the end result and that this battle is over. We are thankful to have her in our corner! She also was our attorney when I adopted my husband’s oldest daughter. It was a seamless process and she provided us with all the details and made it so simple for us! It was a beautiful day and I’m glad she was the one we shared it with! I definitely recommend her for all your family law needs!

Mr. Azar has represented me several times over the past 15 years. I have always found him to be attentive to my concerns and informative about the areas of the law that pertained to my issues. His representation to the jury or Judge as in specific cases was professional, precise and forceful. He was able to prevail in each instance thereby serving his client well. I would recommend Mr. Azar to anyone with the need for legal representation as it relates to personal injury, credit collectors, estates, wills, real estate and commercial litigation. His expertise in these areas will afford the best possible results rather in negotiations or in court.

Allen Sheehan did an excellent job in preparing me for my case. He took his time to explain every detail and made sure that I understood before moving forward. He has so much compassion and understanding, I never felt judged. Julie, his legal assistant, was very knowledgeable about anything and everything and was always so helpful. I was impressed by how quick emails, phone calls, etc. were returned by both of them. I was completely satisfied with my experience and would highly recommend them to anyone needing representation!

Russ Russell and Allen Sheehan are top-drawer attorneys. I had a nightmare of an issue that they were able to bring to a successful conclusion. They work together extremely well and are very adept at navigating thru our byzantine civil legal system. I'm not sure the language exists that adequately expresses my gratitude for their expertise and their unfailing support thru this ordeal. If you have a legal issue and want it handled correctly, either one of these guys will get it done for you.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Montgomery, Alabama?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
