I’ve been working with this firm for many years now, ever since I first dealt with Kathryn Mahady for renewal of my permanent resident card I was sure I would only be using their services. Came back recently to renew again and in less than a month I received my brand new “green card” Thank you so much Kathryn, it is always a pleasure doing business with you.

I had a unique case and was very overwhelmed with all the steps that needed to be done in order to get it taken care of. Then I contacted the office and started to work with Kathryn and Emma and I could relax knowing that they were handling it. They were always very patient, organized and gave me the results that we were after.

Working with AWD law over the last 3 years has been such a pleasure. I worked with both Zach Markham and Zach Hope through the process of a very difficult and challenging divorce. Both of these gentlemen got right down to the meat and potatoes of what was best for myself and my child to make sure that we walked away with the best possible outcome of our situation. Both of them made sure that every little detail that I provided was meticulously and thoroughly incorporated into my case and by the end it really showed. Without their help, I would not be in the position that I am today. To anyone seeking legal assistance, this firm is the right choice. In the future if I ever need legal assistance, I will absolutely be returning to AWD. Your team is incredible.

I highly recommend Benjamin Deguire, Family Law Attorney in Flagstaff, AZ. Ben was the top reference I was given through my friends and family who practice Law in Arizona. With that, I was not shocked to learn that Ben was completely booked when I reached out to him last year, but he agreed to meet with me over the phone to assess the complexity of my Divorce case and feel me out as a prospective client. Fortunately, he agreed to take me on. Ben is an expert on Family Law and also very familiar with the Judges’ tendencies, and well connected with the other family law attorneys in town. This positions him to give sound advice on probable outcomes of settling outside of court vs. in trial. Communication is key when you’re navigating something as stressful, complex and high stakes as Divorce. Ben welcomes questions and input. He was able to pull my input into a strategy with my best interest and outcomes in mind. He tackled each category of the divorce decree one at a time, approaching the cleanest, simplest issues first. This set a nice tone for negotiating the more difficult issues later. Ultimately, we were able to settle outside of court through a combination of a Settlement Lite conference and a Judicial Settlement Conference. I can’t say enough good things about Ben and his wife, Liz. They were wonderful to work with and very relatable on the emotional aspects of divorce and divorce with children.

I hired Ben Deguire for a second divorce proceeding and child support. If you are reading his reviews to find the best attorney, my experience with Ben and his office were positive. It was not an easy or fast process, but his office was very supportive and provided me guidance for me when I wasn’t sure what I could do and what needed to be done. If you are not sure what to do or which direction to head -Ben and his team are great. He gave me scenarios and with his expertise I was able to make the right decisions for my family.

As a juror in the first trial of Juan Jiron Jr, unmentioned in the Sun article today, I commend you and your team for bringing justice to the girls I had to watch suffer through the first trial. Justice was delayed by two jury members who denied the facts, but you made more money and got the win you and the girls deserved. Thank you Chuck Roth , nmentioned in the Sun

I am a commercial truck driver and Vaughan immediately knew how important it was for me to fight this ticket, where other attorneys I consulted in this matter did not. Not only did he completely understand my situation without my having to explain, he then represented me in court where he prevailed. Vaughan’s fees were extremely fair and he’s a very pleasant person to work with. Overall an outstanding experience.

I want to express my overwhelming appreciation for the work ethic and integrity of Mr. Winborne, and his entire firm. First, his office was very responsive to our initial call. We had emails and calls answered within hours, not days or weeks like many others we tried to work with. His retainer was fair, and MUCH lower than others who offered assistance. His legal advice was clear and knowledgeable. And then when the case was resolved in our favor, he actually returned the balance of the retainer! I cannot say enough about how pleased I was with his work.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Flagstaff, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
