I would highly recommend Keith Miller as an Intellectual property /patent attorney. I am working with him now to secure a wordmark and a logo trademark registration. He has gone out of his way to answer all my questions and because of his expertise and strong work ethic, I feel very confident that we will get the registration for both.

I hired Keith Miller to register a trademark for me. He didn't bother to perform due diligence in advising me that my trademark, "COLORS ALLEGIANCE" was in potential infringement of an existing trademark, "ALLEGIANCE A". He advised me to register the trademark for the verbiage, "COLORS ALLEGIANCE", instead of registering our company logo, which I provided for him and expected him to register. So, I paid him around $500 to accomplish nothing. Then, after sending me the notice of rejection of my trademark, he attempts to extort me out of ANOTHER $1,500 to attempt to argue the rejection. He must have thought I fell off a truck! At this point, I realize that I stand just as good a chance of getting a circle R by applying for a trademark on my own through LegalZoom.com or any number of other diy sites. This guy has a great set up - sit in an office writing trademark applications and collecting big bucks, succeed or fail. STAY AWAY!

I hired Keith to write and file a non-provisional patent for my intellectual property this year and he exceeded my expectations. He went above and beyond helping me every step along the way. He is very knowledgeable and informative on intellectual property law and I would recommend him to anyone. I would give him 6 stars if I could. Thanks Keith!!

Keith helped me to put a high level of abstraction into a practical invention. I have used previous firms and patent agents regarding my same method for which I aim to patent. Keith's help has been the most professional from every angle: timeliness, knowledge, honesty, and his exceptional personality. I have already recommended him to a neighbor and will continue to encourage others to seek his advice.

Hired Mr. Current to review and assist with a monetary claim against a health insurance provider. The fee charged was very reasonable. The service Mr. Current provided went above and beyond that which I initially requested. Mr. Current has always been extremely responsive to my email and phone communications. In sum, and in my experience, he provides excellence in all aspects a client might reasonably expect. I highly recommend this attorney.

I hired current law to do some trademark work. They were very noligible and kept me informed every step of the way. They made something that I thought would be a difficult process seem very simple.

We live in another state and our local attorney wasn't licensed to practice in Arizona. Jim Goodwin was recommended to us by an attorney friend in Arizona as a competent Arizona attorney who could represent us in a slip and fall accident at an Arizona hotel. Jim successfully resolved our matter in a timely and efficient manner; we were impressed with his courteous and competent manner and would enthusiastically recommend his services.

Jim did a great job in a very tricky, complex case. He put a lot of effort in explaining what to expect, listening to my concerns, preparing me for depositions and updating me on progress. He is articulate, professional, well prepared and quite skilled. I felt assured I was in the best hands to represent and defend me. I was voluntarily dismissed from the litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Goodyear, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
