Ryan worked with me for 4 years on this estate. Always patient and great advice. We had to wait for over 13 months for the IRS to send a final payout, with no response, letters or any other communication from them. I highly recommend Ryan's services. My hats off to you.

Attorney Ryan Hodges did an exceptional job of assisting me with the handling of my mother's estate in Arizona. He was knowledgeable, professional, courteous and responsive. Losing a loved one is a difficult and emotional time, and Ryan helped keep the process on point by navigating the multitude of legal filings with the probate court and expertly guiding me through each step of the process. I never felt rushed or unsure. Although I live on the east coast, I never felt out of the loop. Whenever, I had a question or concern, he was only an email or call away with an answer. It was a smooth process, and I was very satisfied with his services, price and performance and I would highly recommend Ryan Hodges to help you with your estate matters.

My brother passed away on May 30, 2023. He did not have a will and had no property so I thought it was going to be easy. Before passing he was a resident of the Arizona Veterans Home. Unbeknownst to me, he had taken money out of the bank and took it with him to the Veterans Home. They put it in a trust for him to use but he did not have me as a beneficiary. When he passed they issued a check to "THE ESTATE OF" instead of directly to me, which the bank would not touch without me being named administrator of his estate. Which is why I needed to go the Probate route. This being all new to me I was pretty clueless on how to proceed. I did some research on Probate attorneys in the area which is where I found Jackson White. Now there were tons of probate lawyers in my search but I looked at their website and liked what I saw which is why I chose them. Ryan Hodges was the attorney assigned to me. He took the time to walk me through step by step what I needed to do. My siblings were, shall we say, less than cooperative at times as it was new to them as well. Ryan took the time to explain in simple English what needed to happen and was very patient with us throughout this process. I was finally named as the Administrator. The process took awhile but was finally able to get the check deposited into an Estate account that was set up. Funds have been disbursed and the 6 month nightmare (at least for me) has been resolved. My thanks to Ryan and his firm for getting me through a very stressful 6 months. I will definitely choose them again in the future should the need arise.

Nothing but good things to say about the help and guidance I received from Ryan Hodges at JacksonWhite! I learned of my estranged father’s passing in Apache Junction and was able to connect with Ryan after an extensive search for a probate attorney. What made me choose him was he was the only attorney to have a consult call with me, all of the other firms had assistants or paralegals. Nothing wrong with paralegals, but there was something reassuring about hearing directly from the attorney. He was able to guide me step by step through the probate/estate process, all while I was many states away. He gave great recommendations for real estate agents and tax accountants, which made the process seamless. Every question I had, which was many, he was prompt and detailed in his responses. I cannot thank him enough for helping me through this process and I would highly recommend him to anyone in the area! By closing this estate as quick and efficiently as he did, it really set me and my family ahead for many years to come.

Following a consultation to discuss what best fit our needs, will or trust, we hired Mr. Rieth to complete our family trust. He was easy to talk with and very helpful. We feel comfortable knowing our business is in order. We felt his rate was reasonable.

Adam was very upfront and realistic about what could have been expected in the modification of our child support case. He never sugar coated anything, and legitimately cared about our concerns! Made everything super easy for us, and there were never any surprises. He was upfront about cost as well, and reasonable. I can honestly say I slept better at night with him as our attorney. I 100% recommend Adam.

I had a quick telephone call with Ryan from Tondevold Law about a Civil Citation I was issued by the City of Mesa for a tenant that lives in a property I own. Ryan was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the issue and gave some valuable suggestions how I could handle the issue myself. I would definitely hire them for any bigger issue.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mesa, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
