Twice now I have had the pleasure of working with Ms. Bernabe-Rice and her paralegal, Jenna, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with their services. Ms. Bernabe-Rice exemplifies professionalism in every aspect of her work. She is knowledgeable, attentive, and always made me feel like a priority. Her expertise and dedication were evident throughout my case, and I felt confident knowing I was in capable hands. Additionally, Jenna’s punctuality and efficiency were remarkable. She ensured that all documents were prepared and submitted on time, which greatly alleviated my stress. Her attention to detail and prompt responses to my inquiries were much appreciated. Together, Ms. Bernabe-Rice and Jenna make an exceptional team. I highly recommend their services to anyone in need of legal assistance.

I have Nicole Bernabe-Rice and her paralegal, Jenna Erikson, as representation for my child support modification. Both have been very professional, knowledgable, responsive and dedicated. Miss Bernabe-Rice does not back down from a fight but also keeps emotions out and knows your rights and the law. It is exactly what is needed in my case. I highly recommend them!

Nicole and her Paralegal Jenna are amazing! I’m going through a very nasty divorce and I believe if I had chosen anyone else I would’ve been screwed. They are 100% dedicated to their clients. She’s so easy to talk to and truly cares about her clients. She’s found things that honestly if I had gone the cheap way as my husband wanted I would’ve been hurting even more financially. She’s very thorough! Don’t let her Paralegal Jenna fool you with her sweetness because that girl is a pit bull too. These ladies are seriously an “A Team”. I’m a serious worrier but I’m very confident with the ladies representing me. Win or lose I know that they have worked hard on my case and are seriously prepared every time we’ve had to go to court. I have to also compliment the front office Joann because she is always my cheerleader especially when I’m down. Thank you for everything you have done for me. Words cannot express how much you ladies mean to me especially being here alone, no support and completely devastated over the end of a 23 yr marriage.

Almost a year ago, I hired Nicole for a VERY difficult case in family court. I first thought she was very young and maybe not enough experienced to handle my case, I WAS WRONG! She WON my case, so that I can be with all my children. I can’t never thank her enough for her HARD work in my case. I was surprised how well she knew the story associated to each exhibit. That’s how you know when your lawyer is 100% working for you! When you walk into that beautiful building in Mesa, everyone at Rowley Chapman & Barney is welcoming! I don’t ever want to go back to court again, but if I have to or if I know someone who needs a strong attorney, Nicole is definitely the right attorney to hire. Thank you Nicole! Life is again beautiful for us!

Following a consultation to discuss what best fit our needs, will or trust, we hired Mr. Rieth to complete our family trust. He was easy to talk with and very helpful. We feel comfortable knowing our business is in order. We felt his rate was reasonable.

Adam was very upfront and realistic about what could have been expected in the modification of our child support case. He never sugar coated anything, and legitimately cared about our concerns! Made everything super easy for us, and there were never any surprises. He was upfront about cost as well, and reasonable. I can honestly say I slept better at night with him as our attorney. I 100% recommend Adam.

I had a quick telephone call with Ryan from Tondevold Law about a Civil Citation I was issued by the City of Mesa for a tenant that lives in a property I own. Ryan was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the issue and gave some valuable suggestions how I could handle the issue myself. I would definitely hire them for any bigger issue.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Mesa, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
