Our family was referred to Miller Kory Rowe after the sudden loss of our mom at an assisted living facility. Gabe Kory and his team were true professionals in every sense of the word. The MKR team treated our family and our mother’s memory with respect and dignity. Gabe’s passion for his work and protecting the elderly was apparent after our first conversation. Gabe’s knowledge of the law was evident in the manner which he pursued our case, ultimately resulting in a settlement we were extremely satisfied with. Gabe and his team were incredibly patient as we navigated this process, while at the same time, mourning our mother and the unacceptable manner in which she passed. No settlement will ever bring back our beloved mom/grandma, but with MKR’s assistance, we sent the defendants a very strong message and obtained justice for our mom. Our family cannot express how much we appreciate Gabe, Michele, and the whole MKR team. We are so grateful. We highly recommend Gabe Kory and the MKR Law Firm.

My mother died unexpectedly due to nursing home neglect. We turned to local authorities, whose investigation of the facility unearthed some information, but we still didn't have all of the answers our family needed as we grieved my Mom's death. We did a Google search for attorneys who.work with elder neglect/abuse and wrongful death cases. We had never worked with an attorney before, so we didn't know what to expect. From the first time I called, to the resolution of our case a few years later, the staff at MWK were amazing. I can't speak highly enough of their compassion, professionalism, and support for my family. Gabe was a champion for us. He was as compassionate as he was relentless on our behalf. He explained complex issues in a way we could understand, and we never doubted for a moment that he had our family's best interests at heart. Whether he was speaking with me or with my 88 year old father about the case, he was kind, available, respectful, and transparent. This is clearly not just a job for Gabe. He deeply cares about the well being of his clients (and vulnerable older adults), and takes each case personally. He is brilliant, strategic, knowledgeable, and committed to his clients. He is a skilled attorney and a wonderful human being. I can't speak highly enough about Gabe, or the partners and staff working with him. I don't have adequate words to describe how grateful we are that we found - and enlisted the help of - Gabriel Kory. I will always be grateful for how he fought on behalf of my family as we grieved the loss of my Mom. We will always consider him an honorary family member. He is one of a kind, and I recommend him wholeheartedly.

Gave is a wonderful attorney as well as a person. He was very honest and up front with me from the beginning. This was our first time ever dealing with an attorney as well as starting a law suit. Gabe walked us through everything step by step. He kept us informed all along the way. He and his staff were very professional as well as friendly. They never forgot that we were people as well as their clients. I strongly encourage any one who has a problem with nursing homes or assisted living facilities or any abuse of the elderly to contact him. Even if no other attorney will talk with u, call Gabe as he will listen and let u know if he can help u. As he did with me. Other attorneys would not hear my concerns, gave did and he got us a settlement that I never would of dreamed of. Wonderland attorney as well as person. I would recommend Gabe whole heartedly.

Gabriel was extremely helpful in our attorney needs and really broke down the stigma of lawyers. He helped in making the right decisions not just the emotional decisions. His diligence through the process was very appreciated and his advice was always on point.

In what could be described as painful since it was an elder abuse situation involving a family member, I couldn't have asked for a better advocate than Gabe Kory. He was able to build a relationship with our family that fostered trust, providing a safe environment which allowed us to speak candidly. Gabe was knowledgeable, sharing his expertise and carefully advising us throughout the process. I would highly recommend Gabe Kory and seek his assistance again.

My husband and I did our wills with Bethany and we were very pleased with the service. Bethany took the time to walk us through each document and was very patient and answered any questions that we had in a way that was very easy for us to understand. She was flexible, responsive, and kept on top of us to ensure we were completing the documents timely. She is also very affordable. I would definitely work with Bethany again.

mrs. Jacobs was my attorney for several corporation formations, small legal issues, and estate planning. From my will and trust, to a simple demand letter, to representing my small business corporation she was there when I had questions, fought for me when I needed it, and provided the legal guidance using everyday language without sounding too legalese. Her rates are reasonable (her estate planning isn't much more than the do it yourself stuff available) and she always made me feel like an important client. Highly recommended.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Phoenix, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
