About a month ago, I was convicted and charged with criminal damage, underage consumption of alcohol, and possession of a fraudulent (fake) ID card. Mr. Crews from the start was very supportive and helpful with everything I needed. He made me feel very hopeful about the case, despite how nervous and worried I was. Mr. Crews also responds back to my emails and texts back very quickly with detailed responses in which give me a lot of aid and clarification regarding the circumstances of my legal issues. Mr. Crews operates a small law firm and he gets most of his clients from other very reputable attorneys across the country. This is actually how I was referred to Ted. I was referred to him by one of the best lawyers in the Colorado-Denver-Boulder area in which he said I would use Mr. Crews if this was my kid in this situation. As he was talking to my mother. Mr. Crews was able to negotiate a diversion offer with the prosecutor which means all the charges were dropped in exchange for me paying restitution and completing a Behavioral program in Phoenix. I strongly recommend anyone who has some legal issues (criminal charges to be more specific) to get in touch with Ted. He offers free consultations as well and you will not be disappointed with the prices he offers for service.

I posed a question on AVVO about my current situation. Mr Crews responded quickly and then called me the next day to give me direction and insight. Helped reduce the stress of the situation. He took time to review the situation, answer my questions and give additional guidance. And although he could not directly help me he forwarded my info to another lawyer who could. Again, great person. Great advice. We need more people like Mr Crews!

I got a parking ticket in the mail. It was for the car that my ex got in the divorce. I wasn't sure if it was worth the hassle of fighting it even though I was innocent. I explained the situation to Mr. Crews. He listened to me and quickly went into action. He filed a motion to dismiss and provided all of the documentation to the Court. After a contested hearing and testimony from the officer, Mr. Crews was able to get my case dismissed and no points on my license. I'm sure Mr. Crews had many more important cases than mine. But he took the time to take care of me and my case. I highly recommend Mr. Crews if you need a honest, reliable lawyer to make your legal problems go away.

We hired Mr. Crews to help with our relative's driver's license issues. We were told by other attorney's that after court, our nephew would lose his license for at least a year. We were told by others that it would take four months to get to the final court date. We called Mr. Crews for an appointment and he met with us later that day. The next day he had my nephew in court, spent about three hours with him, the prosecutor, the judge and MVD. By the end of the day, our nephew had his license back. Mr. Crew's fees were reasonable, especially in light of the fact that he basically had to hold our nephew's hand for hours. Although this case was small to most attorneys, and I am sure to Mr. Crews, Mr. Crews appeared to care throughout the process and ensured every part of it was handled properly. Our nephew came home that night and could not stop talking about how Mr. Crews just moved mountains. All other attorney's in that building were telling him that it could not be done: he did it. I hope I never have to hire an attorney again, if I do, I will hire Mr. Crews.

I have known Ted Crews for over 15 years and have had seen first hand what an incredible attorney he is. He represented me in a highly complex and emotional case and without him by my side the end result would have been much different than the positive outcome I experienced with Ted. I have also referred several people to Mr. Crews who have had the same level of satisfaction with his skills. He is extremely professional and knows the complexities of the law better than anyone I have known. He worked extremely hard for all of those that I know of that have hired him. All had nothing but excellent experiences with him. He is brilliant and personable and a true professional.

My husband and I did our wills with Bethany and we were very pleased with the service. Bethany took the time to walk us through each document and was very patient and answered any questions that we had in a way that was very easy for us to understand. She was flexible, responsive, and kept on top of us to ensure we were completing the documents timely. She is also very affordable. I would definitely work with Bethany again.

mrs. Jacobs was my attorney for several corporation formations, small legal issues, and estate planning. From my will and trust, to a simple demand letter, to representing my small business corporation she was there when I had questions, fought for me when I needed it, and provided the legal guidance using everyday language without sounding too legalese. Her rates are reasonable (her estate planning isn't much more than the do it yourself stuff available) and she always made me feel like an important client. Highly recommended.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Phoenix, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
