One of the scariest experiences in my life was figuring out what was next for my son and I after his dad and I split. It was a rough time in my life, but I knew that I needed to find an attorney and I needed to find a great one. I walked into Cantor Law Group and met with Natalie Mathew’s and right away she made me feel comfortable and made me feel that everything WILL be okay. That was the exact thing I needed. She always had my best interest in mind and was willing to do everything in her power to get the things I needed that were best for myself and for my son. I was so worried about finding an attorney because you never know what could happen, but I am so glad that I found her, and I would recommend her to anyone. She is really a remarkable person and an amazing attorney!

Five stars for Attorney Natalie Mathews! Under unusual circumstance and fiery apposing counsel, the Cantor Law Group, more notably, Natalie L. Mathews, executed her duties as a family law attorney in a superlative manner. Attorney Mathews, deserves respect, because, she presented our case, in accordance to our and her, high moral standards. As a result, we were able to make positive progress out of an unfortunate turn of events, concerning child custody. When attorney Mathews accepted our case, I honestly must say, the interminable progress up to that point, had brought-on justifiable doubt, of a favorable decision, by the court. With a well informed session of facts and history of our case, attorney Mathews, confided to us, her knowledge of family law, experience and courteous optimism. Her unvarying professionalism, resolute commitment and experience, held true to her word. In the end, we faired in favor of the court. My beautiful granddaughter will remain in my life and my daughter-in-law can live joyfully, together, as a family; forevermore. I strongly recommend the Cantor Law Group as an advocate for your family law issues. We were treated with dignity and respect throughout the entire process. The law group worked diligently and were very informative with their correspondence every step of the way. Attorney Mathews maintained close contact with my daughter-in-law, ensuring that she was always informed of the groups legal actions and plan. Natalie Mathews, brings great credit upon herself and to the Cantor Law Group. Her knowledge, skills and court demeanor are second to none. We sincerely, like to thank Natalie Mathews and The Cantor Law Group for their due diligence in presenting and achieving a favorable decision in our child custody case.

I retained Natalie in May of 2018. I found her knowledgeable and pleasant to work with during a very difficult time. I appreciated her expertise and kindness. She got back to me quickly when questions arose. I would recommend her to anyone I know needing family legal services.

I hired Natalie for a heated UCCJEA case (Child Custody case between 2 states). She was very professional and took my case to heart. She was there for me every step of the way and produced results for me. She is highly skilled and its very evident in the way that she processed my case. She was also willing to work hand in hand with my attorney back in the state that I live. I would highly recommend her to anyone that needs help with family law.

Natalie is amazing! Family court is not easy to navigate, and I had so much anxiety going in. My case was high-conflict, involved 2 children, and domestic violence was a factor. Natalie is a straight shooter who was transparent and honest with me about what to expect. She always responded quickly and on was on top of everything. Often times, attorneys will attempt to over-sell their abilities to get your contract, but this is not the case with Natalie Mathews. She was conservative with my funds and made me feel calm in confident going into court. Her level of integrity is hard to find, and is very apparent in how she practices law.

My husband and I did our wills with Bethany and we were very pleased with the service. Bethany took the time to walk us through each document and was very patient and answered any questions that we had in a way that was very easy for us to understand. She was flexible, responsive, and kept on top of us to ensure we were completing the documents timely. She is also very affordable. I would definitely work with Bethany again.

mrs. Jacobs was my attorney for several corporation formations, small legal issues, and estate planning. From my will and trust, to a simple demand letter, to representing my small business corporation she was there when I had questions, fought for me when I needed it, and provided the legal guidance using everyday language without sounding too legalese. Her rates are reasonable (her estate planning isn't much more than the do it yourself stuff available) and she always made me feel like an important client. Highly recommended.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Phoenix, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
