We had a case where we had sold our house and thought we had moved on to our new residence without a hitch, when four months later, we received a letter from the buyer's attorney demanding money for repairs for items that they accused us of hiding from them in the disclosure document. Ryan was recommended by a mutual friend, and he turned out to be an excellent choice as our legal representative. At the first meeting, he was very easy to communicate with, as he listened very intently to glean all the details and documentation that we had concerning the case. He quickly came to the conclusion that our opponents had no grounds to make such financial demands and proceeded to elaborate on his strategy to defend us. I liked his plan and I liked his style. Within a just a few days, Ryan had come to an agreement with the opposing party, which resulted in them dropping the case. Furthermore, Ryan also showed a great amount of integrity, in that he informed us that he was giving back a certain amount of money to us, because he did not require as much as we had initially given him to proceed with the case. Ryan Sandstrom is definitely a "5 star" attorney in my book!

I never thought I would be a person who would have to hire an attorney to help resolve a simple water flood I had in my home, but the insurance left me no choice. Hiring Ryan Sandstrom was the best decision I have ever made when it came to protecting my rights and my personal assets. Ryan was always available and very understanding of my feelings and listened well to all my frustrations. With that being said, Ryan was very good at finding the facts surrounding our claim and never let emotions drive his demands and decisions while dealing with my insurance company. Every e-mail and phone call was promptly returned and was done so with compassion and understanding. This was not an easy process for me or my family. We had been fighting with our insurance company for months, moving from our in-laws to a hotel and then ultimately ending up in a rental. It was not until we hired Ryan that things started to move quickly and immediately. I would recommend Ryan to anyone who is having a difficult time getting answers or responses from their insurance company. It is only because of the expertise, professionalism and determination of Ryan that our claim got resolved and paid. We can not thank Ryan enough for his time and dedication and ensuring we were made whole for the damages that occurred in our home. My wife, 5 kids and myself are going to be able to move back into our home this weekend thanks again to Ryan. If you are ever questioning whether or not to hire an attorney, I am sorry for what you might be going through but know you do not have to do it on your own. Ryan will be your voice, your advocate and will get you what you are owed. Please do not hesitate to protect you or your family by hiring Ryan, you will NOT regret it. Thank you Ryan from the bottom or our hearts, we were blessed beyond measure to have you on our side.

We hired Ryan for a case where we were being sued. Understandably, this was very unsettling and Ryan took the time to explain everything about the case, our options and possible outcomes. Any time we had questions, he was very approachable and quickly responded to us with answers. He spent time collaborating with us making sure everything was covered and did an excellent job of pleading our case to the judge. I was extremely impressed with how he represented us and thankfully, the case was ultimately thrown out. While it is our hope that we do not need his services again, I would highly recommend Ryan to anyone facing a similar situation.

I found Ryan on Avvo and from our very first conversation to the very last email he was fantastic. I really can't say enough about his professionalism, speed, and knowledge regarding many types of industries and areas of law. My specific startup company that he worked on was a technology company that will specialize in mobile apps. He was very informative and specific about the process of not only what was required legally to start the company, but also the process of creating an app from start to finish. His level of experience married with how well he handles his clients is by far the best I have experienced in this valley and I would recommend him to anyone and will personally continue to utilize him for future legal needs with this company and others.

My husband and I did our wills with Bethany and we were very pleased with the service. Bethany took the time to walk us through each document and was very patient and answered any questions that we had in a way that was very easy for us to understand. She was flexible, responsive, and kept on top of us to ensure we were completing the documents timely. She is also very affordable. I would definitely work with Bethany again.

mrs. Jacobs was my attorney for several corporation formations, small legal issues, and estate planning. From my will and trust, to a simple demand letter, to representing my small business corporation she was there when I had questions, fought for me when I needed it, and provided the legal guidance using everyday language without sounding too legalese. Her rates are reasonable (her estate planning isn't much more than the do it yourself stuff available) and she always made me feel like an important client. Highly recommended.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Phoenix, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
