When your life is legally on the line, do you really want to trust a public defender? I know I didn't. The police built a case against me that was very one sided because I didn't want to cooperate. It was domestic violence, it turned into the state telling me 4-6 years in prison for a first time offence. Very scary, and threatening judicial system. Initially I went with an attorney that asked me over and over and over to plead guilty. I didn't beat my girl, I didn't hit her, i didn't do anything but leave the house. So why should I plea guilty? Because you won't face jail time she said, I said where's the justice in that. I stuck to my guns (and still have my rights) went and got Jess, and he drug me along through the legal process. Got a felony 4 down to a felony 6, then to a misdemeanor, then to a dismissal. At a most crucial time in my life, when as a plaintiff in a case I found myself in search of legal representation of a type most lawyers care not to deal with, my path led me to the door of Jess A. As such, and while litigation continued on over a period of several years, I came to realize just how important my decision to team with Jess actually was...both for the outcome of my case in a legal sense and for the way that I would forever look at the profession of law and legal system, thereafter. Jess Lorona, has been such a help to me for many years. In 1998, when I first came to know Jess, he not only got my fines and sentence reduced on a Federal case, many years later he came to my rescue again.
