It will be Aaron Black. Aaron was referred to me and my son through another attorney that had helped my son in a previous case. I was provided a couple names from this previous attorney, and as soon as we spoke with Aaron, I knew he was the one. My son was facing class 3 felony charges with jail time and with Aaron’s diligence was able to reduce to a plea where he will earn a misdemeanor. The probation department was recommending Intensive Probation and Aaron was able to convince the judge that IP was not appropriate. As the mother of the accused, Aaron was able to keep my “mother-bear” mind at ease. He is very easy to communicate with and doesn’t make you feel like less of a person because you have been accused of a crime. Aaron is a class-act attorney and a wonderful person. Thank you, Aaron, for all that you have done to keep my son out of jail and to help steer him in the right direction.

My second time using Aaron’s services. I was looking at a super extreme, 45 days in jail and high fines. After Aaron took on my case he was able to find evidence the officer mistreated me, he filed a complaint with the professional standards bureau. When the prosecutors saw the letter they immediately reduced the case to a regular DUI. I only had to do a night in jail, possibly 6 months interlock, and reduced fines.

I found Aaron through AVVO and after reading his profile I knew that I would be contacting him immediately. He was able to get my super extreme DUI charge down to a regular DUI charge through finding evidentiary issues. He prepared me for court by providing resources for everything I would have to complete including alcohol screening, interlock device, and traffic school. My time in jail was reduced from 45 days to just 24 hours. If you find yourself facing criminal charges Aaron is the best lawyer to get the results you want. Not to mention he was reasonably priced!

I landed on Aaron Blacks page after making a terrible mistake one night. I interviewed several lawyers who all wanted me to come in, pay a retainer, and told me to start with them right away without really listening to what was going on. Aaron stood out above all of them. During the first phone call he listened carefully, intently, and told me the truth of my situation right from the start. Once I received paperwork from the state I called him back right away. With Aaron I knew I was in great hands. I only talked directly to him and he was available at any hour of the day to answer every single question I had. He had me prepared for every single court date and made sure I had every class and requirement done way before I even needed to. We were beyond prepared for every single appearance. He was able to show the court my true character, and that I had made a mistake and was truly remorseful. He fought the prosecution aggressively and kept me updated every time something changed. I was facing two felony counts of aggravated DUI looking at ten days in jail with the prosecution asking for two years probation. Aaron had me beyond prepared on the day of sentencing. Aaron successfully kept my sentence to the minimum, and I could tell he was always two steps ahead of the prosecutor. He was able to get one charge dismissed and the other reduced to a misdemeanor. I was able to retain all of my rights. He got ten days in jail reduced to one, and also got my probation cut in half to a year. It was the best outcome I could hope for. I can tell Aaron is respected by his colleagues, and carries himself in such a professional manner. I am so happy I made the decision to hire him. If you ever find yourself in a bad situation like me, relax. Pick up the phone and call Aaron Black.

Aaron was amazing from the beginning with his candidness and efficiency. He was matter-of-fact, efficient and communicative. I interviewed 5 lawyers and when I got off the phone with him I knew he was who I needed to get this done right. He had my case reduced from extreme DUI to regular DUI, my jail time went from 30 days to one day. He had my fines reduced from $2700 to $1500. He had me prepare for court by doing alcohol screening, my alcohol classes were reduced from 36 hours to 16 hours, my interlock is reduced from 12 months to possibly 6 months. He was amazing and I will recommend him 100% of the time.

My husband and I did our wills with Bethany and we were very pleased with the service. Bethany took the time to walk us through each document and was very patient and answered any questions that we had in a way that was very easy for us to understand. She was flexible, responsive, and kept on top of us to ensure we were completing the documents timely. She is also very affordable. I would definitely work with Bethany again.

mrs. Jacobs was my attorney for several corporation formations, small legal issues, and estate planning. From my will and trust, to a simple demand letter, to representing my small business corporation she was there when I had questions, fought for me when I needed it, and provided the legal guidance using everyday language without sounding too legalese. Her rates are reasonable (her estate planning isn't much more than the do it yourself stuff available) and she always made me feel like an important client. Highly recommended.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Phoenix, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
