Jacob Kubert is excellent at what he does! He handled my case with professionalism and was extremely easy to work with. He turned my stressful/worrisome situation into a relief filled/hassle free process and outcome. He had my back and I trusted him entirely. He is and excellent listener and it is obvious he is passionate about his profession and he cares about his client and stands up for what is right. If it were the case, I would also consider this man to be a good and loyal friend to anyone, outside of only having a professional relationship with him. I 11/10 recommend Jake and his practice and will definitely be coming to him again should I have any need for a lawyer in the future.

Jacob Kubert, try Google and you will get a glimpse of the BEST homeowners’ attorney in Phoenix. Next to his picture is an image of Superman, and that is who Jake is to us, a SUPERHERO. After being harassed for 2 years by a neighbor and our HOA, we fortunately found Jake. For previous two years we fended off frivolous complaints that repeatedly required going before the board, yet none of the alleged violations lead to a single fine since it turned out, there were NO rule violations. New rules adopted, enforced without proper notice with immediate fines regardless of best and good faith efforts to meet the rules with nothing settled. Even after being inspected, no violation was ever identified. Jake made clear the options: submit to the ‘new’ rules and pay the fines, take over the board and change the rules, or sue the association in superior court. When it became obvious that even submitting to the new rules and paying the fines would just bring about something else (like trying to evict our dog!) and taking over the board was impossible, we were left with only one option. We sued. Three weeks after Jake came on the case plus one year to the day that we filed our lawsuit, Jake helped us settle the case on extremely favorable terms through mediation. Jake’s description and plan of action during our first couple of weeks of discussions is exactly what came to pass. There were never any surprises. He told us what we could expect. He laid out our options. And he would not withhold bad news. He told us the truth – good or bad – so we could make an informed decision. Without Jacob Kubert, we would still be fighting with the board. He got the HOA off our back and recovered everything we paid out to lawyers to defend ourselves. We couldn’t have done any of this without him and are thankful we found him.

Jake has provided me with sound legal advice on how to handle issues with my HOA. He is knowledgeable and straight to the point. He informed me of my options and gave me recommendations on how to proceed. I hope to not have to hire an attorney for my current situation. However, if I do, I will definitely hire Jake. I appreciate all the information he has provided me.

Mr. Kubert is an incredible attorney. He is extremely knowledgeable and proficient. He is punctual and patient. There are other attorneys who are also masters in their craft. However what Mr. Kubert brought in addition to exceptional expertise was that he really was truly an advocate for my best interest. He was very clear to lay out all of my options and was very transparent about estimated costs and the foreseeable risks/rewards that each choice brought and then he backed my decisions 100%. He could have easily talked me into spending more money than I needed by pushing me towards different legal strategies but he never did. If my closest friends or family ever needed an attorney I would do anything I could to encourage them to hire Jacob. I know he would take the upmost care in doing whatever he could to help advocate for them.

I felt helpless against an HOA that was overstepping again. If I could animate what Jake did for me, it would look something like the Hulk, grabbing the opposing attorney by the ankles and SLAMMING HIM to the right and to the left of the court room floor. Then he used him to mop up the floor. He very humbly made a mockery of the opposing side, with all due respect. My favorite line in one of his last briefs was his starting out the sentence with: "In a comical twist of fate..." OMG I laughed out loud! I can now say that "I fought the HOA and I won!" because of Jake. I will not hesitate to seek his counsel again in the future should something else happen!

My husband and I did our wills with Bethany and we were very pleased with the service. Bethany took the time to walk us through each document and was very patient and answered any questions that we had in a way that was very easy for us to understand. She was flexible, responsive, and kept on top of us to ensure we were completing the documents timely. She is also very affordable. I would definitely work with Bethany again.

mrs. Jacobs was my attorney for several corporation formations, small legal issues, and estate planning. From my will and trust, to a simple demand letter, to representing my small business corporation she was there when I had questions, fought for me when I needed it, and provided the legal guidance using everyday language without sounding too legalese. Her rates are reasonable (her estate planning isn't much more than the do it yourself stuff available) and she always made me feel like an important client. Highly recommended.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Phoenix, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
