I had a difficult and emotional situation and at our initial consultation, she was confident and it seemed like she would be a great advocate for me. After hiring her, she was never available, and her assistant was the only person in communication. This person advised me and when I questioned, shared my concerns, or asked for the attorney I hired, the assistant wouldn't put me through or I wouldn't get responses from my attorney, and she was condescending. The attorney was never available until just before a court hearing and she was always dismissive of my concerns. She acquiesced to the other side repeatedly, and I would leave feeling confused and further hurt by the situation. At the end, she sent me an exorbitant bill for minimal work done that was shocking. Her results were not only the opposite of what I expected but also terribly disheartening and not fair in my situation.

Ms Harris is the worst lawyer you can hire. Once she is hired, she will dodge your calls and have you work solely with Pam, her abusive paralegal that only cares about her dogs. Lynn Harris is fantastic at making false promises and manipulating you to hire her. She will tell you that she will fight like a bulldog for you in court and do the exact opposite. She definitely knows how to throw a show to make you feel like she has your back, unfortunately, it’s only a show to get your money. She told me she’d fight for me. Instead, she collaborated with the opposing council against me, and later dropped me as a client! By the end of my dealings with Mrs. Harris, she did nothing she said she would do in regards to my case; besides BILL ME! ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS!

I'm a 33-year litigation lawyer but not skilled at all in wills, trusts, and probate issues. My brother in law died suddenly, so I was helping my widowed sister in law. It was a potentially complicated case of an old will and prior marriages, so I asked a colleague in Scottsdale for a referral in Prescott -- and got Ms. Harris. Her paralegal, Pam, told me what we needed to send over, and we did. Ms. Harris reviewed the documents, met with us, and in a one-hour consultation answered every question and put our minds at ease. Ms. Harris is a good listener and straight-talker, two things I admire in a colleague. Based on our experience and the referral from the Scottsdale probate lawyer, I'd recommend Ms. Harris without hesitation to anyone!

Please do not hire her. She will tell you that she is a bulldog- she's not. If you want that- hire my ex's lawyer Mr. Fruge. During that very emotional vulnerable time, you just want to know she is on your side- she wasn't. Please Please Please, stay clear....

Last year I was injured in a horrific head on collision and needed an attorney, choosing Sean Phelan was the best decision I have ever made. Sean was not only incredibly professional, honest and hard working but was also one of the kindest and caring people I have ever met. He kept me informed regarding my case every step of the way , routinely called to check on my recovery and went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed to survive the worst time of my life. When I was unable to get to his office he and his wonderful paralegal came to me. When I needed assistance with my health insurance, Doctor referrals and even personal advice.. Sean was there.! When my case went to mediation Sean's skilled presentation led to a settlement that exceeded my highest expectations. I truly believe that choosing Sean Phelan to represent me and the positive outcome of my case has been life changing.

Sean took my case ,which was anything but a sure thing. He never gave up, keeping me up to speed the entire way. Mr Phelan called routinley to keep me informed ,as well as to check on my health, and made himself availiable to me without wait any time I needed him. In the end, he won the case ( they settled). To be truthfull ,after reviewing all the facts, I dont think 95% of other attorneys would have gotten a settlement in a similar situation. Id recommend Sean to my family, and closest friends without hesitation. This is not only a great attorney ,but also a genuinly good guy.

My wife was a victim in unimaginable assault. We trusted Mr. Becke with our best interest following this extraordinarily horrific crime and he went above and beyond. He was trustworthy, always kept us informed about where we were with the case and what he was thinking and planning to do. He was easy to reach and we never had to spend time waiting for him or his assistant to get back to us. He was well versed with the law and without a doubt put in more time studying and interpreting the law as well as preparing for various meetings that were scheduled than the opposing side did. I can honestly say he is everything you would want in a lawyer.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Prescott, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
