If you are going through the unfortunate process of a divorce and are trying to do the best for your kids and your family please call Michelle Perkins. Ms Perkins will use an aggressive Style to destroy your ex and their legal team. The failure of your marriage doesn't have to mean the failure of your future. Ms. Perkins will ensure that you get to move on with your life and do what's best for your family. You will not find a better legal counsel when it comes to securing your rights for your children and your future. I found during the process the most valuable thing was the ability to trust in my legal team and Ms. Perkins embodies the word of integrity.

Our journey with this law firm began over 30 years ago. At that time our attorney was CD Owens. Over that time he served us in many different business and personal cases. All being winners. In 2007 he put together our Trust for our family. Now in 2024 with all the new laws and changes we found ourselves in need of an update. Again we called on this firm to do the necessary update. Michelle Perkins was our new attorney that helped us with this task. Michelle was completely on task with all of our needs and expedited all of our necessary forms. We could not be more pleased with Michelle and her staff. Should you need any legal assistance choose Michelle and this firm first.

Easy five-star rating for Michelle Perkins. I spent a lengthy career as a federal attorney. Have experienced both good and not-so-good attorneys. Michelle is in the top bracket of attorneys in her field of practice. In addition to her competence, she is a pleasure to work with. A careful listener as well as a hard worker. Always puts the best interests of her clients first. Highly recommended.

I went to Michelle for a consult with her . My exwife was trying to reopen a 2yr old divorce decree that we had completed online. The division of assets had been mutually agreed to and completed. I had recently sold a business that I was awarded in the Consent Decree and she filed a claim to get awarded an additional sum of money from me. I was horrified that this was taking place. I tried talking to my exwife and she explained that her lawyer determined our online agreement was filled with holes. We talked and came to an agreement based on that premise. I told her that I would find a lawyer to draw up the agreement. This is when I set up a consult with Michelle. I walked in with my predetermined outcome and asked her to draw it up and make sure this would never happen again. We spent a half hour going over the terms of my online divorce decree and my exwifes lawyers demands. With this knowledge , Michelle politely and emphatically told me if this is the result I was willing to accept, to find a new lawyer. Michelle explained in detail, why she would not engage in letting a client get steamrolled into submission. From that moment on my life has changed in so many ways. I had been very successful and had become the proverbial “tit” for many people. Not only did Michelle’s knowledge, compassion, and perfect expertise of the laws end up with a perfect outcome for me , I have learned to be the person everybody took financial advantage of. Michelle is more than a lawyer. She is strong ,understanding, compassionate, and committed to her client. Everyone in her office treated me like I was their only client. The best experience professionally I have ever had. Michelle thank you and I hope I have gained a lifelong friend.

I have worked with David Blackledge for nearly 3 years. He has always provided my clients with sound legal advice. Prompt, professional, courteous and to the point. David knows the most underrated skill any professional can have is the ability to listen. He listens to the details of the case and does his due diligence before just offering up a canned solution. I would recommend David Blackledge to anyone needing professional legal advice for their business.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Scottsdale, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
