Matt Dana and Todd Smith are extremely professional, down to earth attorneys who understand their audience. My wife and I are high net worth individuals and live in San Diego. Pursuant to the Biden Administration’s stated intent to slash the estate/gift tax exemption from $23 Million/couple, combined with the scheduled sunset of those exemptions, we had to find a way to pass 30 years of accumulated wealth on to our son when we go, without him being hit with crippling estate taxes. To that end, we met with several of the leading “estate” and “trust” lawyers in San Diego. Although the lawyers we consulted with were good at drafting wills and living trusts, administering estates, probates, etc., we were surprised to learn that NONE of them had a clue how to preserve and pass on generational wealth in excess of the prevailing estate tax exemption at the time of our deaths. As our son lives in Phoenix, we were referred to Dana Whiting Law to draft his will and living trust. To that end, we met with Matt Dana and his California associate, Cody Parks several times via Zoom. During those Zoom meetings, Mr. Dana offered viable options and solutions to our advanced estate planning needs, and emailed us several of his articles, many of which are available on their website. We engaged Dana Whiting Law to design and implement our succession plan. We are very satisfied with Dana Whiting’s work, and Matt Dana’s knowledge. One would think that preserving and passing family wealth to the next generation would be straight forward and fundamental to estate planning, but it’s not. Initially, we did not feel that our situation was unique. However, through this process we learned that there is no “one size fits all” solution to advanced estate planning.
