I would let anyone know do not use this law firm I had a horrible experience with them when it came down to them being hired to be on myside that wasn't the case I feel as if the other side was being listened to even after I was told that my wife wasn't able to make false reports to the police in anyway but still that was done I explained that to Jillian but nothing came about it my wife is a person that will lie and lie to everyone just to make people feel sorry for her I wasted 7750.00 on this company just to get a bill that I don't feel entitled to be paying at this point due to her withdrawing herself as my lawyer when my wife stated Jillian was going to let me go I was advised to give up half of my money to wife and after I didn't have counsel I didn't know what else to do besides doing so even my wife sends threats to me family and job about killing me I thought lawyers should take this more into account so this can continue on and on but figured as much of a mess and hassle this company gave me until the 31st of the month to accept the terms of their bill or they will do it for me and give me back less than half o and btw even after I paid the company I was blown off for days not even a phone call stating hey thanks for hiring me you know lawyers always think cause they are in a law firm they can use their terms to get away with anything so speaking to the public to put the unheard voice out there may do some change or justice against this company and more and more people come out with the one star reviews maybe there will be some change good job on Paul I agree that a public defender or pro bono lawyer would of did something different with me. I add more to this with supporting my argument.

This law firm is a Joke…… We had a very bad experience dealing with Jillian. It was stated before in previous reviews that she will not defend male even if you are paying top money. This is a TRUTH STATEMENT. She gave us really bad advice, advance that was against us instead of the other party. When she was confronted about it she stated that we were not a good fit and let us go but charging us tons of money for basically leave the case worse than before. If you are not capable of dealing with big/ complex cases just let the client know in advance that way they don’t have to spend more and more money with no resolution. I will think twice before hiring any one from this law firm.

This review is not on Jillian Hansen as a person. She’s a nice person and extremely book smart. This is my experience with her on a very simple divorce case that was made complex. First, I called 20-25 divorce attorneys with no answers from any of them. Jillian was a friend of a friend and was able to get her information that way. If I could do it all over again I would get a male attorney .I f you’re a man, Get a male attorney. Don’t stop calling. Show up and find a male attorney. It truly does not matter what you pay for your attorney. I was paying top dollar for State 48 and Jillian and my Ex got a “pro bono” attorney that fought harder for her than Jillian did for me. Jillian knows divorce law inside and out. She’s book smart. NOT STREET SMART. As an attorney you have to be creative and able to think of ways to be in the gray area. She does none of that. I would ask her for her opinion. She would put it back on me. I was paying her for her advice and she would not give me any and the advice she did give me wound up being the wrong advice. Which my feeling is she was secretly on my ex wife’s side. Looking back I paid for things on a community property that I should not have paid. Jillian is not too hard to get ahold of which is a positive but when you’re paying north of $450 an hour she should be on call. In the end cost me north of $45k! I could have given my ex everything I had and still would have saved money doing this! She protected me from nothing. The whole process of this divorce I was telling her “my ex is trying to drain me of money and time” which was the truth. She did nothing to protect me from that. She could have completely stalled negotiations and not charged me for a whole year until we could get a trial date set but she continued to go back and forth with opposing counsel draining me of money for absolutely no reason. She was the only one making out during this period of time (which was a year and a half). I was a great client, brought her another new client while I was going through the process. Paid all my invoices on time. Even was able to get reports from a CPA and real estate agents which she never used or brought up during mediation. During mediation, I was in a room with 5 women and myself. Another reason to get a male attorney if you’re a man. They’re all on the side of the woman. Jillian sat there very quiet during meditation. I was speaking for most of the time in meditation. Again, another example of knowing the law but not having those “intangible” characteristics of a great attorney. Bottom line. If you’re stuck trying to find an attorney. Do not stop with State 48 because you can’t get anyone else to call back. Continue to search and dig and find the best value attorney you can. If this review can help one more person than maybe the money I wasted on this law firm wasn’t a complete throw away.

Friendly, compassionate, and real. What an amazing team! I was in search of a "kind and ethical"attorney to help me through my divorce and I couldn't have been more impressed. They went above and beyond and made a very difficult time easy to navigate and made resolution possible in a very tough situation. I felt supported, heard, and I would recommend them to anyone that is looking for a law firm that is actually full of nice people. Especially in the family law space that is filled with not so nice attorneys just trying to make things difficult to make more $, this was the exact opposite. They did things to speed up the process, limit interactions and keep my bill as low as possible. Just being able to talk things through, including your feelings is so helpful and I really felt like I had a team on my side.

I have worked with David Blackledge for nearly 3 years. He has always provided my clients with sound legal advice. Prompt, professional, courteous and to the point. David knows the most underrated skill any professional can have is the ability to listen. He listens to the details of the case and does his due diligence before just offering up a canned solution. I would recommend David Blackledge to anyone needing professional legal advice for their business.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Scottsdale, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
