If you want your attorney to defend your ex while you are the one paying her she’s the one to go to. This lady doesn’t listen to you, cuts you off mid sentence, I had to stop breast feeding my 3 months old because she said it wasn’t an excuse for the father not to take a newborn baby overnight. From the beginning she made it clear she didn’t want a middle man when it came to paying her since I found her through Marble. I guess she wanted me to pay her directly. Either way after the court day I haven’t heard anything from her is like she disappeared.

I have been meaning to write a review here for a while now. I hired Nisa not long ago to handle a bit of a complex case, and I've gotta say I'm monumentally impressed with her performance, ethics, and passion for what she does. She is proactive, and blows me away with her quick responses and solutions for curve balls. When things come our way unexpectedly she is so quick with an answer and solution, it makes my head spin. One thing that I greatly value and respect about her is her honesty- she may not always tell you what you want to hear, but you can trust she will ALWAYS tell you what's best for you and your case, she will always steer you right. She's passionate, ethical, a true to her clients which to be honest, is very rare to find in her field. She also is very careful with where and how your money is spent, and she's not a nickel-and-dimer, which helps greatly, especially with how much money court cases demand and require. Another thing I'd like to note is that she's very easy to contact when you need her, and efficient with time. She keeps you up to date, and stays in frequent contact. She also strives to maintain a peaceful resolve if at all possible, and does her best to keep the parties amicable even when agreeing on ANYTHING seems grim, her goal is to bring people/parents together, and help you to see the true best interests of your children, which is a phenomenal quality. I just don't have enough words to express how wonderful this woman is. If you're dealing with a divorce, or family case- she's definitely a go-to attorney that you can TRUST. Our case isn't even near being concluded, but I trust in her to get us to our ideal end goal. Thank you so much, Nisa! For all you've done, and continue to do!

We sought out Ms. Herd's expertise in a child custody case that had gone all wrong. Within minutes of us explaining to her what had occurred she advised us flawlessly in every aspect of our legal ability. She was genuinely concerned for the situation and the children. If you hire Ms. Herd she will leave no stone unturned and will be honest all the way around which is best for the children. I highly recommend her to handle one of the most precious gifts in our lives, the well being of our children.

After the sudden death of my husband I needed a probate lawyer to help me refinance my home. We thought we had taken all the right steps to insure all the necessary steps were taken so we wouldn't run into any problems. Boy was I wrong. Seems the verbiage was written wrong in our Wills. I was so stressed out from losing my husband, and trying to get this refinancing done in the time frame I was given I needed help. Andre at Pennington Law took a lot of that stress away from me, and ensured me things would get done. Even during this Covid-19 Pandemic Andre was able to file and work his magic to make sure I was taken care of, and this overwhelming process was done, and done right.

Never really trusted lawyers, and I thought they were all a bunch of double talkers, out for themselves...well that is until I met David. He has worked so closely, and so compassionately with my wife and I to help us through a series of civil litigation problems, that he feels like family. Now I know what my father meant when he would say, “Every family should have a good mechanic, doctor, and lawyer!" Well our family has David, that’s for sure. We know God has blessed us with this man in our lives. If you want a litigator who will listen, truly listen to you, and actually care about you and your outcome, and then will roll up his sleeves and get to working and fighting hard for your case, look no further than David. He’s the Man! Wow, can’t say enough!

David helped clear up some real estate and title questions that I had. He was considerate, upbeat, and has a real eye for detail. He was also a great listener and I never felt like I was being talked down to. His energy and intelligence really made me feel like I was in good hands and his legal advice was thoughtful. I would recommend David to anyone who is seeking advice on property or real estate issues.

Mr. Russell prepared a trust estate for my mother and father-in-law. He was very knowledgeable, considerate, and patiently answered each and every question they had. Upon creation of their trust, Mr. Russell took it one step further and insured that all of their existing assets were re-titled appropriately into the trust.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Surprise, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
