We tirelessly searched the internet for a lawyer for our son and we are so glad that we found Cornelia! My husband and I live in Pennsylvania so we're we're nervous about coordinating our son's legal defense from such a distance. Ms. Honchar made it easy. She is tough, down to earth and gave us our chances right from the get go. She called and emailed us every step of the way even spending 2+ hours on the phone with me just for the consultation. When I hung up the phone, I knew we had our lawyer. Our son was facing multiple felony charges and walked out of the courtroom today with probation. She even argued our case and convinced the judge to let us bring our son home with us on parole. I can not say enough about how she took us under her wing and guided us through every appearance and paperwork and all the other details that came our way. She is worth every penny!!

My name is Mary, and I am writing this review to let anyone who is in need of an excellent lawyer Ms Cornelia will not disappoint you. We hired her in a self defense case for my son he was charged with 4 aggravated assaults, all felonies it was a very hard time in our lives, not knowing the law or what to do. Ms Cornelia was a godsend to us she is a compassionate caring person, my son was facing up to 30 years he is 22 so that was devastating to us. My son was determined to go to trial and Ms Cornelia felt confident he could win the case, but again if he lost hence the 30 years or more!! Words could never express what this wonderful woman did for my son. At some point of him being in jail he was threatened by other inmates and put in what they call the towers very traumatic for him and us his parents and siblings, there is absolutely nothing you can do!! Totally helpless feeling, Well she got him out of solitary confinement and transferred to another what they call pods, He did well for the rest of the time he was there. To anyone who reads this, Ms Cornelia is a lawyer you want standing by your side, To end this we decided not to go for trial, not because we did'nt trust her but for the fact that if he lost, well she got him a plea of 3.5 yrs with 1 yr credit. We will forever remember her in our hearts!!!!

Cornelia Honchar is a fabulous lawyer. She is so kind and nonjudgemental. She will work tirelessly, any hour of the day to make sure she has done the most she can for you. She doesn't treat you just like a "criminal" but more like a friend, and will listen to you, in hopes to get the best results possible. I would recommend her to anyone needing a criminal defense lawyer. If you want someone on your side, she's your gal.

Mr Boatwright represented me as my public defender a couple of years ago and he cared very much about me as a client and he cared very much about getting the best possible outcome for my case. He listened to me and explained anything I didn't understand and even told me he would assist me with filing another form once I finished paying my fines even though the case was technically over after I completed probation. I have unfortunately dealt with several different public defenders because of a family member and I have never encountered anyone that cares about their clients like Mr Boatwright, in fact, usually my encounters with my family members public defenders were the opposite and they didn't hide the fact that they didn't care about their clients or that they were unwilling to fight for their clients and would always say to take whatever plea the prosecution offered. Mr Boatwright was totally willing to go to trial and fight for me if that's what I wanted to do and anyone that has him as an attorney will be well taken care of. He will return your phone calls and he will spend the time needed in office to go over your case with you. I would definitely hire him again if I was ever in trouble again and if he was in private practice.

Russell goes above and beyond the expectations that any lawyer I have seen in a court room. His passion and charisma serve not just in the court room, but also at a personal level getting to know his client. I was a client of his for several months and I could not have gotten anyone more driven than he was. Very lucky client to have Russel as my lawyer.

I was amazed at how fast Zelma handled my case! It was last minute and I was in contact and in a meeting with her mere days before my court hearing for disputed child support modification. She handled my case with such precision and made sure that my concerns were addressed. She was so very informative about expectations of both sides of this legal nightmare. She gave clear explanations of what to expect but fought for what I was deserved. I could not say enough nice things about her! I definitely recommend Zelma to anyone who is overwhelmed and in desperate need of legal help!

Zelma represented me in a very acrimonious divorce. I honestly don't know how she put up with all of my emotions for 2 years. She was always very calm when I wasn't, and would explain the law or strategy in layman's terms. Zelma was sincerely interested and caring about the outcome of my case. She explained circumstances matter of factly even if I didn't want to hear the outcome. Zelma is extremely knowledgeable in family law. I recommend Zelma Letarte 100% for an affordable and winning attorney. I can honestly state that after my divorce I learned how to move forward and not backward with bitterness because of her caring nature during and at the final decree of the divorce. I am a very strong personality and I learned a lot about empathy and fairness from Zelma.

Our case was not your typical Child Custody/Support case by any means. Zelma went above and beyond with handling our challenging case. I was so impressed how organized and professional she was. We call Zelma the " Bulldog" when it comes to being tough in the court room. Thank goodness she was on our side.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tucson, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
