Over a protracted and difficult period of time, Danette proved to provide rock solid advice, advance legal strategy, and valuable and fair feedback. After researching the majority of lawyers available that practiced family law in Tucson, I selected Danette based on numerous factors. She had case specific experience in areas involving behaviors of questionable legal standing by opposing counsel and their client, as well as complex support through a religious organization geared solely towards extracting monies for the benefit of their group. Essentially, Danette had odds stacked against her. She successfully maneuvered the case through the system, with patience and care, all while managing expectations in a clear and concise manner. The outcome was favorable. I’m grateful for her help, and very satisfied with her capabilities and professionalism.

Ms. Pahl was my opposing attorney. I initially consulted her on my ex husbands behalf. Eventually I hired my own attorney. She frequently came to court unprepared and requested numerous continuances causing the divorce to run nearly five years. What was most disconcerting is that she lied three times to the Judge while the evidence countering her claims were part of the exhibits. She has a knack for changing course which led to more new pleas, continuances and then later she would remove said requests. Her peers describe her tactics as "throwing everything against the wall, right or wrong, then seeing what sticks". Her services will cost a lot of money with very little results.

I have worked with Danette for many years (sadly), first for my divorce, and then for ongoing child custody issues with a difficult Ex. Danette has been extraordinarily professional and has guided me through the maze of family law. My case was complicated and it was clear from the beginning that Danette had the best interests of my children in mind. I felt confident working with Danette, despite the emotional trauma of divorce. I have recommended her to several friends and would not hesitate to recommend her services again. If you are involved in a divorce situation, with kids and don't know where to go, call Danette.

Danette Pahl is the attorney that I would like to review. She is both a highly effective attorney and, more importantly, a wonderful human being. Danette knows what she is doing. She thoroughly researched and prepared for my divorce case, with excellent results! Because of her diligent efforts, my divorce settlement yielded just what I had hoped for—an equitable division of the community property. I not only received half of my husband’s pension but also health insurance and $100,000. These awards exceeded my hopes! In all of her cases, Danette adds personal touches—empathy, protectiveness, and sympathy. These heartfelt personal touches incentivize her to be quite tenacious on the behalf of her clients. As may be expected, these qualities surfaced in my case. She was very sympathetic, concerned and protective. These qualities serve her well in responding to the emotional aspects of her case (i.e., the emotional turmoil of her clients, who are distressed because of their divorces). These qualities also serve to enhance Danette’s legal prowess, pushing her to be tenacious on behalf of her clients (such as myself) and meticulous in her research for the case and the execution of the legal procedures involved. Considering both her effectiveness in the legal arena and the personal touches that she brings in her approach to a case, all-in-all, she is a wonderful and effective attorney, who I would highly recommend to anyone who is undergoing a divorce or has any other family law issues. Thank you so much Danette for your support, legal prowess, and effectiveness in the legal arena!

This woman has been a Godsend! She genuinely cared for my husband and myself and most importantly his child. Her presence in the courtroom is something to be reckoned with. In the 10 year custody battle with my husbands ex, I don’t think either one of us has felt so taken care of. She thinks of everything and then some. She came highly recommended by another lawyer friend and she exceeding all of our hopes and put our family back together. She is the most ethical lawyer we have come in contact with, that being said if your one goal is to screw over your ex at the cost of your child(ren) this is not the lawyer for you.

I have worked with dozens of attorneys due to the nature of previous jobs and due to personal reasons, and no one compares to Amanda. She's compassionate, knowledgable, and responds to questions in a timely manner. She doesn't only answer your questions and provides guidance, but she also empathizes with you and supports you throughout the stress that comes with navigating the court system. Having her advocate for me in a criminal case was a true blessing.

I was physically assaulted, somehow I was arrested? I spent a day in jail and had to defend myself from a family member who had assaulted me and lied. I am soooo glad I called Charnesky and Dieglio. Dina answered my call. I think it was a Sunday, she stayed on the phone and was very caring and competent and I hired her. Dina was knowledgeable, honest and forward about the charges. I live out of state and Dina and James went to court for me. My trial date was a while back and Dina and James were there for me. They were excellent and knew how to handle this case. The Judge ended up granting "acquitted-not guilty" -which is rare. I trusted them and I am so Thankful for them. I would not hesitate to hire them or recommend them!

Dina is an amazing lawyer. She knows the law and is so helpful. She walked me through the whole process and was there for me every step of the way. The best decision I've ever made was to hire Dina Dieglio. I cannot begin to think of where I might have ended up without her.

My case was badly damaged by a prior attorney. Susan reviewed my very complex and comprehensive case and was able to understand the history and dynamics and the damage that was done. She strategized how to go forward, all while focused completely on the best interests of the children. The final outcome was favorable and Susan’s approach and diligence was key.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tucson, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
