I didn't know this was such a powerhouse of a law firm until after I retained them to handle my divorce. The thing I liked best about dealing with them was they always treated me like a person, not just an account or client. The entire staff is that way. I especially enjoyed meeting with Mr. Goldstein because he was very understanding and compassionate. Regardless of how bleak I thought my situation was, I felt reassured and confident after meeting with him. During the process of my divorce I also learned that G&S worked in many other legal disciplines including wills, trusts and estate matters, Immigration, and criminal law. The attorneys assigned to my case handled all of it competently and professionally. In addition to handling family law, one of them had been a prosecutor, another was well versed in immigration. About the only thing they don't handle is real estate. I highly recommend this firm. Regardless of the type of legal matter, if it's handled by Goldstein & Scopellite I don't think you can retain anyone better.

I hired "Goldstein and Scopellite" about two years ago to take over as counsel in a complex litigation matter that was not going favorably. The case involved four attorneys and had many parties. When they took over the case, they were able to quickly review the lengthy file, develop a strategy to fix initial issues that were critical, and then develop a long-term strategy to win the case, which never would have happened if I had not hired them. Mr. Goldstein and Ms. Scopellite, the partners of the firm, are professional lawyers who actually care about your case, just like they say they do on their website. They were attentive, personable, and helped me to understand the process much better than I did before hiring them. I would highly recommend using this law firm and their services if you have an on-going case that is not going well. They can help turn things completely around. I would also recommend hiring them for any new legal matter; I wish I had hired them in the first place.

I hired Mr. Goldstein to handle my legal matters including my business formation, my family law case and a state agency case. I had hired other lawyers previously who did not do what they said they were going to do. Mr Goldstein was able to implement, resolve and win all of my cases. He redponded to my calls and did not drop the ball in redponding and submitting evidence as needed. I would hire him again. Thank you.

I recently hired this firm, in the year 2014, to help me with my complex custody battle that stems over two states and for the last several years. This firm is still handling my case. However, since I hired them and they took over, I have made great progress. I had been to several other lawyers who really messed up my case and hurt my and my children's relationship, as I was not able to see my children for several years. Now I have a continuous relationship and see my children regularly and I am rebuilding my relationship with them. I am still fighting for custody of them. Yes, this case has cost me a pretty penny, but it has been worth it. We are getting much closer to what I should have been given years ago. I would highly recommend Mr. Goldstein and Ms. Scopellite and their firm to anyone. They know how to litigate and they care.

I have worked with dozens of attorneys due to the nature of previous jobs and due to personal reasons, and no one compares to Amanda. She's compassionate, knowledgable, and responds to questions in a timely manner. She doesn't only answer your questions and provides guidance, but she also empathizes with you and supports you throughout the stress that comes with navigating the court system. Having her advocate for me in a criminal case was a true blessing.

I was physically assaulted, somehow I was arrested? I spent a day in jail and had to defend myself from a family member who had assaulted me and lied. I am soooo glad I called Charnesky and Dieglio. Dina answered my call. I think it was a Sunday, she stayed on the phone and was very caring and competent and I hired her. Dina was knowledgeable, honest and forward about the charges. I live out of state and Dina and James went to court for me. My trial date was a while back and Dina and James were there for me. They were excellent and knew how to handle this case. The Judge ended up granting "acquitted-not guilty" -which is rare. I trusted them and I am so Thankful for them. I would not hesitate to hire them or recommend them!

Dina is an amazing lawyer. She knows the law and is so helpful. She walked me through the whole process and was there for me every step of the way. The best decision I've ever made was to hire Dina Dieglio. I cannot begin to think of where I might have ended up without her.

I know next to nothing about criminal law in the state of Arizona but I spoke with Ms. Dieglio and she was super helpful and knowledgeable about the steps I would need to take to resolve an outstanding matter.

My case was badly damaged by a prior attorney. Susan reviewed my very complex and comprehensive case and was able to understand the history and dynamics and the damage that was done. She strategized how to go forward, all while focused completely on the best interests of the children. The final outcome was favorable and Susan’s approach and diligence was key.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tucson, Arizona?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
