I was going through a dispute to terminate a temporary guardianship that I had with my sister. Subsequently, this led into a custody battle between my son’s mother and I. I found myself fighting for my son against a coalition of two female aggressors. I originally retained representation through two separate law firms over the course of a year but had to leave both because they were completely ineffective in showing proper attention to my case. I was at my whit’s end and out of money when I found Roni nearly a year after filing the original termination of guardianship. Roni was the consummate professional. She did not sell me a bill of goods or tell me what I wanted to hear just to get my business but was straight to the point about the fight we had ahead of us. When there was mis-communication between opposing counsels and the court, she was on top of every detail, taking leadership and even making allowances for myself on the financial end so I would not absorb all of the costs. Her retainer and services were extremely reasonable and competitive. In court, Roni was prepared amidst an onslaught of attacks from two separate fronts. She was calm, cool, collected, yet aggressive when the moment warranted. She owned the room through poise, preparation, and confidence. I truly believe finding her when I did was a form of Divine intervention in my son’s life. He is in a safer place right now with a bright future because of her. We won our case, and I have Roni Bryant to thank for it.

I have given Trae Bryant a very hard time with my case. It hasn’t been the easiest for him and I actually ended up letting him go as my attorney. If people would just shut up and listen to their attorneys advice (especially myself) things would go more so in your favor. Trae took my case again when things went south with the other party, I had lost hope in all honesty, but he snatched my case back up and was on it by 7 am the next morning. Within the little amount of time I’ve had Trae back representing me it has been nothing but a blessing. I know my son is safe and I know Trae really does have good intentions and has my back. He is 100% for anyone who is in a custody battle, whether it be a nasty case or an easy case. You just have to take his advice very seriously, he will not let you down. The only person that can let you down is yourself. So thank you Trae for waking me up and making me grow up. I have grown into the best mom I can be for all of my children. Most importantly thank you for having my back even when I wasn’t right and was blinded by “love”. He’s an amazing attorney and worth the money. Always responds and has things in order ready to go on the day of court. Thank you, Trae! You’re the best.

Cons
1
Lack of responsiveness and communication issues, with clients unable to reach the attorneys
“Hired Roni to take care of an issue with child support. All i got was a waste of time because i could never get ahold of her. The secretary would always say that she was busy and she would give me a call back later. Weeks went by and never heard anything.”
2
Failure to follow through on promises and commitments, leading to unsatisfactory outcomes
“Trey made the whole process a breeze, would highly recommend." (in contrast with) "Trey took my case over 5 years ago..We signed a paper TOGETHER that he would take the case....I did everything i was told to do...Months would go by without a word from him..Met with him last year and was told the case would now go in front of a judge to be decided..Couple months ago i get a letter telling me that after further review he couldnt take my case....UM YOU ALREADY TOOK IT OVER 5 YEARS AGO!!!!! Several calls to the office with no one being available ......Never a call back explaining why he just quit......DO NOT USE THIS JOKE OF A LAWYER !!!!”

This guy's a great lawyer! And easy to talk to .. no one else would touch my motorcycle accident case because I have a suspended license, even though it was 100% their fault. Well Phil took my case, and within 2 weeks the other party's insurance accepted full liability for the accident. After getting me treated and back on my feet, he negotiated a great settlement for me, and even got the hospital to waive some of THIER fees .. ggreat overall experience!! HIRE THIS GUY!

Kevin Hickey represented me in an international divorce case. I am in Singapore and Kevin filed a dismissal in Arkansas. He helped me find jurisdiction experts and created a successful strategy that led to mediation in Singapore. His whole team was super professional and the cross continent bad timezones did not phase them. I would recommend Kevin and his team for anyone looking for a lawyer who needs creative solutions and does not break the bank. Thank you Kevin and Michael. You saved me.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fort Smith, Arkansas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
