RiverCity Law is an awesomely amazing law firm where you will understand on day 1 that your well- being is top priority. RiverCity Law team are very patient and kind people who understand that you face a journey. Whether it is a long road or a short block, RiverCity Law will treat you with dignity, respect, confidence, and loyalty. For months this Law Firm was my shoulder to cry on when going through illness, an ear to listen, as well as a giver of encouraging words saying it will be ok, thus letting me know they really care about me as an individual. The case ethics are indisputable the job gets done!!! I was never left in the dark about anything , all questions were answered, THEY LISTENED TO WHAT I HAD TO SAY!!! Gave me options in decision making for my case and made sure that my options were understood clearly. Words can never express, the gratitude I will forever carry in my heart just meeting this phenomenal team . To Mr. Trent, Logan, Katelyn, and the entire RiverCity Law Team, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am so thankful God gave me the opportunity to meet all of you. it has truly been a blessing that I will cherish for the rest of my life. May God continue to bless you. YOU GUYS ROCK!!! Ms Naomi

**Long post, but worth the read if you're doing your due diligence in searching for the best representation possible** I would like to share my experience with this law firm, which was one of the WORST I’ve ever had. Trent’s primary motive seems to be strictly money, which is not enough to adequately represent a client and being a GREAT lawyer as we the people deserve. I've had an ongoing case involving my daughter and her maternal grandparents for eight years and have been represented by five other lawyers during this time with a very similar pattern, despite this, I have still not been found unfit after all these years. Likely due to having no pattern of criminal history. I am a registered nurse, native everyday to help people who are sick and hurting, I do my best to uphold a professional and ethical demeanor. This lead me to belief that I would make an ideal client to represent, and that one would think this would make my case straightforward. I even provided all necessary evidence to Trent, neatly organized files over the last eight years on a Google Drive. I was highly responsive, did much of the work for him, and paid nearly $10,000 to this firm in less than two months, yet I have a hard time recalling my case progressing ANY. My friends and relatives were even left asking me often, what has he accomplished for you? This was embarrassing considering the amount of effort and money I put forth with him. I am not denying my cases complexity, however I paid what he asked and worked alongside him to assist as much as possible. I hoped and asked for plans and guidance to advance my case, as he was the lawyer, but I often felt like I was left playing the role of lawyer myself which no client should feel this way. I had to request often for motions to be filed that he promised. He joined a call with the ad litem, spoke barely a few words, yet charged outrageous for the call. I could go on and on of disappointing things I encounter with this firm. I’ll leave it at this, If your case is straightforward, he might take it, charge you the maximum price, and leave you thinking you got a good deal when, in reality, any lawyer could have done it, and for a better price. I needed expertise, not some lawyer going through the motions. I had encountered financial difficulties as the case was requesting more and more of me, along with unexpected problems with my home that I ALSO purchased prior to this lawyer so that i could be closer to my daughter, despite juggling a multitude of financial burdens that I expressed well with him I still managed to pay $300-400 per week, which I felt was a great amount, that’s nearly another mortgage each month, however my case was still dropped because I was being billed hundreds more each week which I had and still have a hard time understanding. When I reviewed my case file, it lacked significant documentation and seemed filled with irrelevant copy-paste case studies. We only had one hearing, during which the attorney persuaded me to take a deal I didn't want, which resulted in more hardship in this case for me. While I understand that lawyers need to make money, they also have the discretion to charge fairly. This attorney showed no empathy for my case or concern for my daughter’s outcome—only an interest in making money. Imagine being cared for by a nurse who is only interested in their paycheck and does the bare minimum—that's how I felt with this firm. Now I have no lawyer and barely any finances to hire another. He has turned over other dues to collections, that I do not agree with, and a final hearing coming up shortly, that I have no clue what to do. I wish all reading this the best of luck finding the help you deserve

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Little Rock, Arkansas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
