Bonnie Robertson and her staff are amazing! I used her council for a pretty complicated custody case. She was patient, passionate, and calculated. I feel like we worked together as a team seamlessly. Her foresight and understanding of the law, opposing council, and judge led to an agreeable outcome. She may seem laid back at first but trust she has claws when the time comes. Thank you, Bonnie Robertson & staff.

Bonnie was highly recommended and it would be remiss of me to not reinforce the recommendation to anyone in need of an experienced, hard working attorney that will not back down. Of the four attorneys participating in the court hearing, she was far and away the best in the room. Opposing counsel even complimented her conduct afterwards.

I hired Bonnie in 2010 to help with a divorce/custody issue and parental alienation. She did not list each of the complaints in the motion she submitted to the court, and when she tried asking questions related to those complaints, the opposing attorney objected and the judge sustained. She asked questions entirely unrelated to the subject matter of the case, embarrassed herself, embarrassed me and then told me "Oh well, I'll get him next time." She will say I was a "difficult client" because I took the time to draft the motion listing each of the complaints individually (as you're supposed to do) and asked her a ton of questions. But she knew better, wrote her own motion, then got reminded by the judge in the court that each complaint must be addressed in the motion to be heard before the court. I love my kids more than anything and was very concerned about what was happening to them. She was listed as a father's rights advocate, so I chose her. I wish I hadn't. Your mileage may vary...

Bonnie was not the first attorney I worked with regarding family law issues. She was actually the fourth attorney I hired to assist me and my family with resolving some rather serious custody matters. The three lawyers before Bonnie, all with varying degrees of experience and price ranges, had done what they could, but all seemed fine with the old "mom is best and dad gets the rest" mentality. I feel like this exposure to multiple lawyers has given me a greater insight into what makes a good attorney from a parent's perspective. During the consultation, Bonnie explained the process we would take, the applicable laws specific to my case, and where my expectations should be prior to my paying any fees. Most importantly, Bonnie reminded me there was no guarantee things would go the way I hoped regardless of how solid I thought my case might look. I knew immediately that I was going to hire her. Once hired, Bonnie was always in touch with me via email, text, or phone call. She even took a call from me during her family vacation because a time sensitive issue arose. Bonnie included me in the strategic planning of the case and thoroughly explained possible outcomes. She always had contingency plans in the event something did not play out the way we hoped. Bonnie's experience showed as she always seemed to anticipate the reactions to any motion we filed. She was quick with her recommendations but left the final decision to me, all the while answering every question I had no matter how trivial. Bonnie took every bit of time to explain options available to me and my family which would keep us from having to go to trial, however; we ended up in court because the opposing party would not agree to any offer we made. When we finally went to trial, Bonnie's preparation was impressive. She was able to recall things I had forgotten which furthered our argument and strengthened our case. She also prepared me for what to expect during the trial and demonstrated amazing professionalism throughout. I do not believe Bonnie stands more than an inch over five feet tall, but she was an incredibly intimidating figure during the trial. No question, answer, or comment was wasted in the process. A spectator could not have been more impressed by the display of skill and professional competency Bonnie displayed during the trial if they had been watching a scripted play or television show. We did not have a decision at the conclusion of the trial but I was completely satisfied with the job Bonnie had done representing me and my family. When the judge finally made a ruling, I did not get an email with some lengthy and confusing court documents attached. Instead, Bonnie called me right away to tell me the judge had ruled in our favor and took the time to explain everything to me so I would understand. I did not mention price for a reason. It does not matter. If you want an attorney who is professional, competent, and skilled to represent you and your best interest, find a way to hire Bonnie Robertson. She is absolutely amazing!

I just want to let people that look at this website know what a great bunch of men and women you guys are. Six years ago my family went through the most horrific experience. Our 9 year old daughter had a stroke and had to have a mechanic valve put into her heart.i contacted Rainwater,Holt and Sexton and was put into contact with Bob Sexton. For the last 6 years no matter when I need him he's always been there for me. I don't know what I would have done without these wonderful People. They truly care about people that they represent and their families. Thank you again, you guys are the best.

Mr. Sexton handled my auto accident case last year, and I couldn't have been happier with him and his staff. He was always available to speak with me about my case, and answered all my questions in a way that made sense to me. Although he was very professional, he is very personable and I felt more like I was dealing with a friend than an attorney. I would highly recommend Mr. Sexton and his firm, and would certainly use him again.

Don was successful at removing a mechanic’s lien on my home and evading litigation in a lawsuit brought against me by a residential contractor and his lawyer. Construction law is confusing and Don demonstrated expertise in that area as he left no page unturned and addressed every accusation filed against me (which were several) with swift, aggressive and thorough responses. Don’s dedication to my case was a humbling experience; he spent late nights and weekends collecting pertinent information to cover all bases, and in the end, it all worked to my favor, as I didn’t have to pay the opposing party a single penny. Don fought for my home as if it were his own and I will always be grateful that he took up my case.

I needed an attorney to represent me after my ex wife sued me. After consulting with a few attorneys I met Patty. Patty was very understanding, yet gave me the facts that I needed to properly address my circumstances. Patty is everything you need. Her knowledge and experience gave me comfort, while her strength and skill gave me what I wanted from the judge! She was able to guide me through a very difficult time. Nobody wants to be in a litigious situation, but if you are, Patty will represent you in an honest and skillful way that will give you the confidence you need to go to court.

Patty is kind but tough and imminently knowledgeable about the law. With Patty's guidance, I felt empowered and certain that I was in good hands throughout the process.

I joking call Patty Lueken "Attorney of the Year " to her face and in correspondence, but the whole thing comes from a place of deep appreciation for her talent and her passion. Patty took my case from another attorney and quickly reacted to a number of sensitive and unresolved issues with real authority and direction - which ultimately led to a resolution I never even imagined possible. She combines aggressiveness, where needed, with calm, level headed and knowledgeable advice. As mine was a critical family law matter, she could step into my shoes as a mother with a deep understanding of a parent's priorities. Patty returns emails and phone calls quickly and treats all her clients as if they are her only one. One can expect unmatched service from Patty and her small, but mighty team!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Little Rock, Arkansas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
