I would of been better off representing myself! He tried to get me to agree on her having every Christmas & bday! He told me that we could just celebrate the day after Christmas! He cared more about trying to be friendly to her lawyer in the court room than defending my rights as a father to my son. Never gave me decent advice on how to handle things. Was always trying to get us to agree to her lawyers rules! If I knew how it really worked I would of gotten so much more! I even had to pay her attorney fees because he neglected to file when we moved it to little rock so her lawyer got there first and made it look like she had to come after me for child support instead of me having to go after rights to see my son. Now I'm stuck with a terrible agreement and very high child support based on my "potential earnings" not what I earn. He gave her evidence to use against me because he doesnt understand family law i guess.

Awesome criminal attorney, hands down!!! I contacted almost every criminal attorney in Little Rock, Cody, was my choice. If I ever made a mistake, I can say choosing Cody wasn't one of them! I will say this, "I went from three felonies to two misdemeanors without trial!!!" I know I have said enough...choose Cody! He will contact you and have faith in you. As with any attorney, just tell him the truth, he will handle the rest! Cody is my attorney for life, my family and I love Cody for all he has done!!! I would not dare write this review without mentioning his co-worker, Seth Bowman, two awesome men that know how to get the business handled!!!

I personally cannot say enough good things about Cody as an attorney. Unfortunately, I had a run in with Arkansas State Patrol a few months back, where they allegedly caught me going 15+ mph over the speed limit on a highway in Rural Arkansas on my way back to my home state. My citation, however, also included a Class C Misdemeanor that the Trooper never informed me about. Needless to say, I was incredibly worried about the impact this would have on my job interviews, insurance rates, etc. I reached out to Cody and we quickly got the process started. From start to finish, Cody was responsive, helpful, and insightful — he always got back to me within the same day, usually in a matter of a couple of hours maximum (usually in minutes.) He set my trial date and worked diligently with the prosecutor to get my criminal penalty reduced to a civil penalty - an infraction that is much, much better than my original charge. I no longer had a misdemeanor and the infraction would not be recorded on my driver's record, ensuring my insurance doesn't go up. To those in a similar situation and are debating whether it's worth it to hire a traffic attorney or not, I can confidently say it is, especially as someone who lives in another state. The fee was worth the peace of mind, and the insurance savings alone paid itself off. If I ever get stopped again by ASP, I definitely will be giving Cody a call.

Absolutely one of the very best lawyers I've had the privilege to work with. Regardless of the issues involved Blake immerses himself in the case and works diligently to represent and defend his client. He doesn't just give it lip service, he really works to defend you. My choice.

Blake was my attorney in September of 2004. My case involved Doctors testifying against me in court about a person with mental problems. Blake bought medical books and really studied about the subject he would be asking the Doctors about. He blew them away with his knowledge and left the Doctor telling Blake "you know more about this than I do". He was always straight forward with me and YES I would use him again in a heartbeat. He was very professional in handling everything, which in turn gave me a sense of relief. He truly cares about his clients and stands on getting the best possible outcome for them. Excellent attorney. Michael did a great job representing me when my ex wife sued me for my retirement. Although we lost, Michael did everything right. He presented my side of the issue in a very professional way and I felt that he was a better lawyer than my ex wife's lawyer. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone needing legal representation.

In September my daughter and I were involved in a motor vehicle accident. After the accident we sought treatment for the head, neck, and shoulder injuries we sustained as a result of the collision. I found myself dealing with the insurance company of the party whom was responsible for the wreck. At first this seemed to go fine and it looked as if all of our medical bills would be taken care of without needing to involve an attorney. Then the insurance company stopped communicating with us and there we were, stuck with outstanding medical bills. I realized I needed at least some advice from an attorney so I decided to call Michael Phillips. Over the course of our conversation, I realized that I needed more than just his advice, I really needed his help. He understood how things worked in these cases in a way that I did not. In the end, my husband and I decided that hiring Michael was the best possible choice. This choice took the stress off of us. Michael did everything we didn't know how to and the results were much better than if we had continued trying to resolve matters on our own. We couldn't be happier that we hired him! He is efficient, experienced, knowledgeable, and he was able to explain things in a way that my husband and I could understand. It did not matter that his practice was in Central Arkansas and we were 2 hours away in Northeast Arkansas. Michael was able to serve us and do everything a Northeast Arkansas Attorney could do. My husband and I wholeheartedly recommend Michael! Our experience with him as our attorney has been great.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Little Rock, Arkansas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
