Caroline is one of the best attorneys I have had the pleasure of meeting. She made a fantastic visitation schedule for my ex-wife that had my stepson's best interest at heart. She cared deeply about our case and I can tell she cares greatly about all of her cases. She is extremely intelligent and if she doesn't know the answer, she will find it through research and hard work. I am about to use Caroline again for another case I have and will continue to do so for all of my legal needs in the future. Thank you Caroline, you are incredible!

Caroline Curry Lewis is a tenacious, driven, smart, and accomplished lawyer. She is the ONLY attorney I will use for any case and if needed she can consult with other specialists, but she will manage the case. Her staff keep in constant contact and she makes personal calls to you herself. She is organized and briefs you well before court. She is quick to answer a question and quick to admit when she needs to do further research. She called us on the day of an important US Supreme Court decision to alert us of the decision and to congratulate us on the outcome. I cannot imagine anyone who could not be well served by her. She is open and caring and respects the equality and dignity of all persons. We immediately felt comfortable discussing very personal family matters with her, which were processed by her with our dignity as her first priority. She filed a historic case for us in an area of law that is still being sorted out. I cannot express enough our gratitude to her and her para-legal Sean Patterson. They both are amazing people. If you are looking for an attorney that will place you first and ensure that you are given factual information and present all options in an easily understood matter, then she is the one for you. Her fees are reasonable and she worked to actually find us the best options in case filings and shared the pros and cons of all matters. in court she presented herself in an above average manner and had excellent relationships with the court and court staff. There was a special request regarding the hearing of the case and she was able to work this out as requested. She met with us as needed and did not try to find every billable minute she could find, rather she set a market reasonable rate and we were pleased with that. We were very apprehensive about presenting our case to a stranger that we did not know, considering that we are a same-sex couple, however, as stated above the dignity and grace with which she addressed us made us feel welcomed and appreciated. I would highly recommend her to anyone.

My husband and I retained Milton to represent my husband for a criminal immigration matter, and not a minute too soon. My husband was arrested and charged with a crime that potentially could have destroyed his life. At first we retained a local attorney and we were led to the slaughter by this unprepared and under qualified "professional". He was not qualified to deal with such a complex and crucial issue, although according to him, he was a superstar. In the eleventh hour we retained Milton, and kept him engaged after conviction to represent my husband in the appeals process. Milton seemed to have a better understanding of all the facts at our initial meeting than the first attorney had the entire time he had represented my husband, almost a full year at this point. I wish we had retained Milton at the very first sign of trouble, the outcome would have been vastly different. Milton is very responsive, he returns calls, he answers his own phone and he knows the law. He isn't hired to be his client's best friend and he makes no bones about it, but his demeanor is such that even when he delivers horrible news you know he is solid in your camp, not playing both sides of the isle, or rolling the dice with your life. Milton is well respected in the field and he very deserving of this respect. He spent countless hours preparing for our “hopeless” case and it paid off in the appeals process. Looking back on a horrible experience and learning from 20/20 hindsight, I believe retaining Milton first would have been the best form of defense. If we had to do it all over again, Milton would have been the only attorney we needed to know and the appeal wouldn’t have been necessary. An attorney firmly in your camp from the beginning, who is aware of his strengths and is confident in the delivery of your Defense is 99% of the battle. I recommend Milton with confidence for representation with your immigration or criminal legal matters, if he isn’t the right attorney he will not try to convince you that he is, and he will be honest and upfront with you sooner rather than later, or worse, the morning of the plea deal deadline on the eve of trial.

Mark has represented me twice. Once in 2006 and recently in 2017. Both times Marks expertise has saved me from being incarcerated and being taken away from my family. Thank you again Mark. You are the best of the best for sure. Legal strength when you need it! For sure!

Mark actually listened to what I had to say, never tried to cut me off or prejudge my case, was willing to look at any material I brought to support my position.. absorbed what my situation was.. I must have talked to 6 or 7 attorneys in the last few months... most are only interested in telling you what their fee's will be, not what they think they can do for you.. What a breath of fresh air. Open and candid, not any sign of ego, so down to earth. Definitely talk to this man before you make a decision on hiring an attorney, wish I had of found him 8 months ago.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Little Rock, Arkansas?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
