They deadnamed me and quoted my REAL legal name, and told me it was because they weren’t “woke”. It’s bad enough they took 40% of my earnings after being hit by a car. Not doing business with them again.

My experience in leaving a high conflict marriage (with a litigation attorney) has been nothing but frightening. Feeling confused, dismissed, deflated and defeated by a marriage I had put so much of my efforts and energy into left me lost and lacking any belief things could improve. Meeting Greg Silva was intimidating as I had lost faith and trust in attorneys after contacting many throughout the Bay Area - all dollar driven (watch out for those ads). Learning my rights which is never clear in our present society and putting faith into a stranger was my biggest growth and lesson thus far. David Falik is someone who can hold this with care, class and grace. The cost is high, however, their level of expertise and the safety I felt in my experience thus far has been priceless. I’m slowly getting my life back. Mr. Falik (and Silva & Associates) are ready to fight for your rights and if not well-verse in an area, they continue education to prepare. Mr. Falik has phenomenal listening skills and shocking expertise in handling high conflict personality types to an unbelievable degree. Mr Falik also is able to keep a wonderful sense of humor about unexpected obstacles, which has been imperative for me. Mr. Falik and his team are truly a light in such a dark place. He can put your words into an eloquent beautifully written respectable request (particularly when we cannot). In this industry, where a massive hurdle is finding ethical, cost conscientious and grounded attorneys, they are the firm fighting the “good fight”.

We couldn't commend the expertise of Kantor & Kantor more. Zoya, who won our appeal with great success, is a dedicated, detail-oriented professional who stays on top of all areas of your case while compassionately communicating next steps and outcomes. We were so grateful to have her on our team, and because of her clear expertise, excellent handle of the written word, and dedication to this important work, felt confident in what was/is otherwise a scary time. It is disorienting to manage the onset of a debilitating illness while in need of a complex appeal. Her detailed intervention with obvious legal stealth, was essential.

I was diagnosed with a devastating degenerative neurological illness that has grave impacts on all life areas. Per doctor instructions I left the workplace that I once thrived in until my talents began to deteriorate at the hands of this rare and poorly understood neurological disease. In the midst of this devastation, my insurance company flatly ended my disbursements. Knowing affirmatively this was unjust, I consulted Zoya and her supervising partner. They applied great skill, roadmapping, and knowledge of the law to ensure this was an unjust event. She handled my appeal with great detail and legal prowess. I believe the work performed exhibits top talent. Highly recommend for others who feel abandoned by insurance claim coverage without justice.

Marc has been my lawyer and then very close friend for 20+ years, and I simply do not know what I would do without him. He is smart, tenacious, ethical, wise, and damn witty - a very rare assortment, in friendship and/or the law.

My case involved Real Estate and financial abuse of a family member. While selling a home I asked the realtor if she knew of a Real Estate attorney and she gave me Marc Fong's information. Marc was the answer to my prayers, he sheltered my elderly family member from the stress of litigation and met with her many times at her assisted living facility when necessary. I cannot express strongly enough how Marc was the strength and calm in the midst of mediation which was extremely stressful. He is everything you want an attorney to be, knowledgable, ethical and supportive I will alway be grateful for his expertise.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Alameda, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
