I had the unfortunate experience of working with Mao Wang as my attorney, and I can confidently say it was a huge mistake. During the initial consultation, he assured me that my case was a winning one, but once I hired him, his attitude changed dramatically. He became condescending, dismissive, and often hung up on my calls, claiming he was too busy to talk. To make matters worse, the complaint he drafted was riddled with grammar mistakes and even had my name misspelled. This level of carelessness is unacceptable, especially from someone who is supposed to represent you in a legal matter. Mao Wang is a deceptive attorney who wasted my time and money. I wish I could give him a negative star rating. I have also filed a complaint with the State Bar to ensure others don't have to go through what I did. Avoid this attorney at all costs!

He was kind and seemed genuinely caring only at the beginning. Once I completed initial payment to him, his attitude became condescending, quick to anger, and his treatment became quite rough. When the bill arrived, I was shocked to see that the hours had been inflated. In the end, he didn't resolve any of the issues, so I decided to seek help from another attorney. It felt like I had thrown my money down the drain. I wouldn't recommend this lawyer to anyone.

He lacked basic lawyer skills, did not do his duty and ruined the trial. He is not honest about any mistakes he makes, which will be hard to recover from later. And he will do anything to get money from his clients. So I would never recommend him to my family or friends. Paying him is a waste of money.

I reside in Los Angeles and recently the property that I rented for 5 years was sold. The new owner soon began a campaign of intimidation that escalated in time. After about a year of countless notices containing unfounded accusations left at my door, the owner started an eviction process. As I shared my troubles with a friend, Mao Wang, attorney at law, was recommended to me. I called Mao. He analyzed the situation and warned me of the potential outcomes, good and bad. He defended my interests as his own and helped me keep calm during the legal battle. In the end he got me the settlement I deserved. His methodology is straight and his fees are fair. I would recommend Mao to anyone who thinks it’s time to get an attorney.

So I had arguments with him a couple times, but still (or should I say that's why) he's the only lawyer I can trust. He's an honest man and I can tell he worked really hard for me to find the best way to handle tough situations I had. If anything happens in the future, he's surely the one I will turn to. Thanks, Mao.

Ashley Andrews was extremely helpful and professional. She was willing to work with our schedule. My husband’s work schedule is all over the place, and she was as accommodating as she could be for us. She is very knowledgeable and helped guide us every step of the way. We were confident that she helped us obtain the best possible outcome and the results we wanted.

This is Stacy Campagna and the review below I believe is done by the opposing side in my case of her own attorney. My attorney, Ashley Andrews, is the only attorney in her firm and the only attorney who appears in my case. During the hearing this past week, the other side's attorney did not appear and I understand is no longer eligible to practice law in California. I beleive that this review was done by the opposing side of her own attorney on my attorney's page. I have the following things to say about my attorney:  My attorney Ashley is excellent and has never dropped the ball once. Her or her paralegals are always available when I need them, and always respond quickly to all my correspondence and return my phone calls promptly. Ashley is a highly ethical lawyer, which is a huge thing in this field. Ashley has done an outstanding job in supporting me through this whole legal process with sound and solid advice. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone needing a solid and thorough lawyer. I am so grateful for all of her help.

I put myself in a bad situation and she was able to turn that around and get me joint custody and lower my child support. Now I get to see my daughter. She is simply incredible.

We faced a change of circumstances and contacted Ashley for a consultation. She reviewed a complex prenuptial/partnership situation, completed the initial research thoroughly and quickly, and provided us with a range of options on how to proceed. She was caring and took time to explain details carefully, ensuring that we understood the implications. I highly recommend Ashley if you want an attorney who takes the time necessary to make sure you understand nuances, and who also ensures that your best interests are her top priority.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Arcadia, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
