I am one of 138 residences within El Nido Estates Mobile Home Park and we as a group have hired Bruce Stanton two years in a row to defend a San Juan Capistrano city rental control ordinance that is being challenged by our park owner. Bruce had done an outstanding job last year, defending the ordinance, we hired him again immediately an look forward to a positive out come.

Some poppies stand taller in the field than others; some lawyers stand taller in the legal field than others. Bruce Stanton stands tall. Mr. Stanton rises above the field due to his clear, linear thinking and purposeful strategy for winning, his unruffled, professional demeanor in the courtroom, and his management style with his clients. And he wins his cases. He won our case! For two years in a row, and two litigations, Bruce Stanton has been the attorney for the El Nido Estates to prevent two separate, exorbitant 100% rent increases in our rent-controlled mobilehome park. In contrast to the opposing lawyer, a high-powered, high-priced master of sophistry, who relied upon theatrical antics, procedural objections, straw-man arguments and convoluted logic, Bruce Stanton, with a calm and steady hand, kept his eye focused on the facts and legal arguments it took to win and quietly and masterfully prevailed! Undeterred by the antics of the opposition, he tartly rebutted each argument they enumerated and deftly shone light on their obfuscations. He was a brilliant foil to their clown. Equally impressive, Bruce Stanton was masterful in his handling of us, his client/s (all 155 mobilehome residents), when we became fearful and demanding. He calmed our fears and guided us back to the facts and our strategy to win. He was patient and generous with his time while being respectful of “billing hours”. On two occasions he participated in a phone conference call with all residents to explain the on-going legal process and answer our never-ending and repetitive questions. With calm expertise and a depth of experience, Bruce Stanton led the charge that protected rent control and denied the owner his exorbitant rent increase. David beat Goliath

The residents of our mobile home park hired Mr. Stanton to represent us in response to the park owner trying to increase rents on every unit by over $600.00 per month. This figure is more than double some of the space rents. Mr. Stanton was so well prepared, knowledgeable, cool under fire, respectful--he reflected well on his profession and he succeeded on our, the residents, behalf. In my view, Mr. Stanton is a real working attorney; someone who is vested in the success of his clients. I am grateful he represented me and my neighbors during this highly stressful process.

We were facing an egregious rent increase by the owner of the mobile home park where we are living. We hired Mr. Bruce Stanton to represent us in this matter. Wow! What a great choice we made. He was not only a polished gentleman at all times, he is surely one of the most professional attorneys that I have ever had the chance to meet. Bruce did an excellent job for us, and at the same time, impressed our city council with his legal savvy and his professional presentations and demeanor. We would recommend Mr. Stanton to anyone facing a challenging legal problem.

review Kevin Smithson to me 0 minutes agoDetails After lawfully purchasing a firearm in the past, I was charged for possessing an illegal firearm due to California compliance changes that I was not informed of. Whether it’s a minor misunderstanding or a serious charge, the complexities of firearms laws can be overwhelming in the state of California. Ryan communicated the technicalities of these laws and was able to get felony charges dismissed. Ryan's representation was nothing short of a very positive experience. He was attentive, always quick to reply to any of my concerns or questions, and truly cared about the potential life-changing situation I faced, which made me feel understood and supported. If you have any firearm-related charges, he's the man for the job.

I was referred to Ryan from another attorney for some charges that were brought upon me. He contacted me on a Sunday and gave me his time to explain my case. He made me feel very comfortable and he was very engaging. He took the time to explain what I was up against. At the beginning of the call he explained to me he doesn’t work in the Federal area of expertise I need. He still spend and hour on the phone to me to assist in answering my questions. Very professional and very good “bedside manners”.

A while back I was hit by a reckless driver on the freeway causing me to roll several times. The next day I had insurance companies calling me pressuring me into say how I felt. I didn't know what to say so I sought out representation. Over the course of my case, Mr. Maurer and his team handled everything from the smallest detail of the case to just "how are you today?" with the upmost care and attention. The entire process was stress free from the time they took over. I would receive updates consistently so I always knew the standings of the case. I hope I'm never in a situation where I need representation again but if I am he will be one of the first people I call.

Jordan expertly and successfully represented my 91 yr old father with a serious injury claim. He was compassionate and came to my father's home several times during the process. He was patient in explaining the legal aspects of the case. Jordan sent updates to me and my brother along the way and always kept us in the loop. Jordan has a good heart and demonstrated how much he cares for his clients. We can't thank Jordan enough for the time, effort and empathy he displayed towards my dad and resolving his case.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Auburn, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
