Mr. O'Brien took the time to give me the exact answer I needed to my question, which most lawyers won't do. He responded quickly and efficiently - he is obviously fluent in probate law. I didn't realize I was located so far from him. If you are looking for a personable attorney who cares enough to take time out of his busy day to make sure you get what you need, Mr. Obrien's the one.

As part owner of a poker casino here in Los Angeles, I needed an attorney that handled my living trust and will. Mr. O'brien was found on google, in Brea, he was perfect. Not only has he helped update my Revocable Trust, he has extended his services by helping me with my trust application and renewal of my license with the Dept. of Justice and Bureau of Gambling Control. He also represented me in court for a speeding ticket. I highly recommend Gerard W. O'brien for Legal Services...

Ms. Youseff is a very good lawyer. She was there to answer all of my questions and did not seem like she cared about charging me like most lawyers do. You can tell from the second you meet her that she really cares about helping you. She is very intelligent and if she was not sure about something she researched and gave me a response very quickly. She represented me and my company in a lot of lawsuits and issues and I would recommend her to anyone I know. She is one of the rare trustworthy persons I have met. Thank you Ms. Youseff for everything.

My wife and I hired Mrs. Gahram Kang for trust and estate planning, and she was great. From the start, she and her team explained everything really clearly, and they made the process for providing our information really simple to follow even though we had lots of assets to record. Gahram responded quickly to all of our questions, and helped us wrap up the whole process within a month! We felt like we could trust her and her team from start to finish, and would definitely recommend them to others!

I just had an initial consultation with Gahram. I'm in a sticky situation, but she helped figure out a few ways to move forward, so I have much more peace of mind. It's very clear to me now what she has a perfect review record of (90) 5-star reviews. I'll gladly be 5-star review number 91!

Godsend! Yes! Michelle was a godsend to have her there just when I needed an honest lawyer to handle my lemon case! She is the best of the best in handling lemon law cases! I wanted to say thank you for helping to resolve my case quickly. I was completely dazzled by your communication skills & courage in handling every aspect of my case. Michelle previous experience as a criminal defense attorney during her days in Fresno, gave her an extra edge in negotiating & settling my case easily & quickly! Her knowledge of the lemon law is extensive! She did know exactly what was wrong with my car & did guide me brilliantly to solve my case quickly. She is naturally gifted & talented lawyer! She is the smartest lawyer I have ever dealt with! She is simply a “Super Lawyer”. All the other lawyers were so concerned about signing the contract first & their financial gain! But let me tell you, Michelle was different! She encouraged & guided me to try to solve the problem first on my own with the manufacture, without any contract & free of charge & when I failed she took over! I am blown away by her integrity & all the hard work she did in my behalf! She got me the best outcome possible for my lemon case, even if it wasn’t the best financial interest outcome for her! She will put you first regardless of her financial gain! I wanted to thank you for your excellent work you did as my attorney. I know you have a lot of clients, so your prompt responses and attention to detail really meant a lot to me. I cannot thank you enough for your assistance. Your legal expertise & professionalism went above & beyond my expectations throughout the course of my case. Also I want to thank Michelle’s parents for the way they raised her as her honesty & integrity speaks volumes about her character! Also I was very impressed & learned a lot from Michelle’s interviews & articles as every time I watch one of her interviews or read one of her articles, I do learn something new! I will never forget what you have done to make sure I got the best outcome. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the amazing legal work you did on my behalf. Thanks for prioritizing me as a client & doing everything in your power to help me win my case.

I contacted Michelle several months ago with an inquiry regarding my possible lemon. I approached Michelle because her website was extremely clear on what a lemon was, how she serves her community, wonderful ratings, and how easy it was to email her through her website. After providing her with some information about my car, she responded to my email with a phone call on the same day! This was extremely pleasing to know she was monitoring her emails and reviewing the inquiries. We talked over the phone and she provided me with advice and tips on moving forward. In addition, she was honest. She let me know initially that I had a lemon case but a minor case and explained to me how to proceed forward. With her advice, I moved forward with the tactics provided by Michelle on pushing back against the manufacturer myself. To my surprise, it was a success! Michelle's advice worked and the manufacturer agreed to repurchase my car! I was stunned and ever so thankful for her help. I updated Michelle on the success and she was just as happy as I. To be honest, I felt awful because she just helped someone who could have been a monetary client. But that didn't matter to Michelle, she was just as excited as I was and even offered to review the repurchase offer! After working with the manufacturer for a couple of weeks, they posed an offer letter. I sent it over to Michelle and she quickly reviewed it and explained why it was a great deal. I felt much more comfortable accepting the letter knowing I had an expert on my side. Michelle is a genuine human being who demonstrated that she is not only a lawyer but a person looking to serve her community. She went above and beyond for me and didn't even ask for a dime. She is the first lawyer I have officially had to contact and she has provided me with the best first impression. I cannot thank you enough, Michelle. I am extremely thankful for professionals who see beyond the monetary value but look to use their profession for good. I would recommend anyone with a possible lemon or questions to approach Michelle. She is responsive, professional, and demonstrates she cares for those with car issues. Thank you for your time.

Michelle went above and beyond my expectations! Both professional and down-to-earth, she explained every detail along the way. Michelle also addressed my numerous questions promptly with clear answers! My case was not an exceptionally big case, and Michelle warned it may not be taken seriously; yet, Michelle pursued it with tenacity and won! I am beyond pleased with the outcome, and I highly recommend Michelle to anyone in need of assistance with a "lemon". You won't find better representation. Thank you, Michelle!”

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Brea, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
