BEWARE. I presented a very credible injury case to Marc, and initially him and his staff were very friendly, stating that they are trustworthy, loyal and made a lot of other promises. Marc and I signed a contract and he then collected all of my evidence and even contacted the defending party in my case as my representative. All of a sudden, Marc informs me that he can't continue representing my case, citing that he was too busy with other cases, and in all ways - in an email. He didn't even have the courtesy to call me. Then when I expressed my disappointment regarding the matter, Marc's attitude completely changed, and he surprisingly played "the victim". Both him and his staff went from all smiles to no longer taking my calls. Marc didn't even provide another attorney as a reference. It felt like high school... If you can believe it, Marc literally told me that he didn't understand how I felt inconvenienced by having to start all over with another lawyer. By the way, I was, and still am, suffering from a serious head injury... I eventually found another lawyer who was happy to take my case. But the experience with Marc's office is something I will never forget... I actually believe that Marc can be a capable attorney, but I can tell you that, in my experience with his office, he lacked empathy, was not responsible or most importantly, accountable. Good luck to you.

Mike helped my wife and I prepare our living trust. He was patient with us while we dealt with everything one deals with while making the decisions you have to make throughout this process. He was able to provide advice based on past experiences and he made the process simple for us. Any and all info we needed, any paperwork he required from us, was all explained and made easy to provide. It was a painless process is the best way to describe it. He was ready for us for all appointments and we did not have to wait as you do when you visit a Dr. these days!

I used Mike Amthor as my divorce attorney. Going through a divorce was the single worst thing I have experienced. Mike and his staff never let me down. He fought hard for my case and my daughter. His staff kept me focused in a time when I couldn't focus at all. This firm has an amazing balance with their clients. While Mike kept me on track and had a plan, moving me forward everyday, his staff had the most compassion and kindness. I will never forget you all. You were the best ever !

I have used Mike Amthor twice for divorce and custody work. This guy has great Christian values and morals. No matter what happened in my case, he always had my boys' best interest in mind. He never gave up! He fought hard for my rights as a father. I continue to work hard today to be a great father because he gave me hope and courage. I also appreciate that he always worked with my budget and stayed in it. There are some great ones out there that make a difference in your life. he is it!

When our minor son suffered traumatic injuries, we hired the Boeger Law Firm to represent him on the recommendation of a friend. Mr. Boeger took our needs and schedule into consideration and even came to our house for the initial consultation and on several other occasions during the entire process. He took the time to get to know us and the case. Every phone call and email was returned promptly. He explained the legal procedures and let us know what to expect at every stage. Mr. Boeger actually recovered a better settlement for our son than originally expected. Once everything was resolved, Mr. Boeger met us at the bank and sat with us and the financial service consultant to make sure the trust account for our son was set up properly. We definitely recommend the Boeger Law Firm if you or a loved one have suffered an accident.

Marc Gradstein has a gift of incredible intuition when it comes to timing and intimidation . He successfully represented us as we went up against the State of California to fight to receive our adoptive daughter . He did the footwork necessary to bring our daughter into our arms. I have total confidence that he'd do the same for you. He's tough as nails with a heart of gold.

Marc was an exceptionally kind, thorough lawyer who handled my adoptions with expertise and caring. I had dropped to two sisters 15 months apart and he not only counseled us and found the birth mother but he accompanied us to adoption day so that we filed everything perfectly. I have recommended him to many of my pediatric patients and infertile friends

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Brentwood, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
