I went to this attorney so I can get someone with expertise to review my severance agreement package. He made a couple of changes and I paid him $240 for that. I asked him if it would be prudent to ask my former employer to extend the severance thru the end of the year and he told me that we could try but that it was not guaranteed. He requested $1000 as a retainer so he can work on my case. A week went by and I diid not hear from him instead I had to call him to find out what was going on. He told me he had the letter for my employer ready and he requested my employer's email so he can send them my request. The reason why I am writing this review is because I gave him $1000 thinking that Mr. Warshaw will put in a great argument so I can get my severance extended to the end of the year. Instead he waited a week to make contact with my employer and weeks went by without hearing a word from Mr, Warshaw. I kept calling him and email him to try and see if he heard from my employer and he kept telling me that he had nor heard from them and that it would be a good idea if I call them to put some pressure. As a client this is not what I was expecting to hear I wanted him to push them to get an answer but he did not do any of that. When I got my invoice for June 2013, I was surprise to see that he had bill me $700 for phone calls he receive from me that took less than 2 minutes and about two electronic mails where he responded with two words. I know part of the fault is mine for not reading the contract more carefully but it was very upsetting to know that there was only less then $300 balance of the $1000 I gave him. Once I learned that I could get billed 10 minutes for a 1 minute call I stop calling him and emailing him. Of course I did not hear from Mr. Warshaw so I was forced to make another phone call to Mr. Warshaw and I did and told him how I felt about the June invoice and his services and he told me that he could not do anything if the employer was not responding. I got very frustrated and I told Mr. Warshaw that his services where no longer needed. I contacted my employer, gave them a piece of my mind for taking too long to answer and I sent them an email. To my surprise they answered my right away. As it turns out I did not get more then what they had initially offered me and it took almost three months to get my severance pay. So there you have it I paid Mr. Adam Warshaw $1000. US dollars just to answer a few 2 minute phone calls and two word's emails. The point I am making here is before you go see Mr. Adam Warshaw make sure you shop around. The city is full of attorneys even though you can never trust an attorney at least expect him or her to make a good argument for you, make sure you are getting your money's worth. If Mr. Warshaw should be your last option. Be very careful how to use your time. I am still waiting for a July invoice but I figured he did not send me one because he figures I used up the remainder of the money with another 2 minutes' phone calls I made at the end. I don't think he would dare bill me for more then $1000 which in my opinion was a waste of my money since I ended up doing all the work at the end. I definetely do not recommend this man's services.

I was in a car accident several months ago and I was recommended Avaness Law by a good friend. I spoke with Aren Avaness and be quickly got to work. He reviewed my accident, he was able to begin the process helping get my car repaired and get me back to 100% health. His quality of work and the partnerships he has made my life go from chaos to smooth sailing. Aren and his team guided me through every step of the process. I was very impressed at the final outcome of this case. I hope I don’t get into an accident again but if I do I will be reaching out to Avaness Law. Thank you again Aren I appreciate everything you did for me.

Filing for bankruptcy was something i never thought I would have to do. I begin calling around to different firms looking for some help. I came across Kateryna Bilenka name and decided to give her a call. We spoke the same day and she explained everything to me and I decided to work with her. She was very professional and on top of the business. Whenever I had a concern, she reassured me that everything would be ok and it was. I would recommend everyone to work with the Bilenka firm.

I had an excellent experience working with Attorney Nicholas Bravo. We encountered an issue with our 2020 Jeep Wrangler, and he handled the situation with the utmost professionalism. He quickly contacted the manufacturer on our behalf, and within a short time, the vehicle was identified as a lemon law case. Thanks to his expertise, we were able to return the vehicle and receive a full refund. I highly recommend Nicholas Bravo for anyone dealing with similar issues!

When referred to Nick i was scared to call and not knowing what to expect. Nick, accepted my call, asked a few questions and I liked the fact that he tells you what occurs throughout the process and reviews documents 1st before accepting so their is no misleading or wasted time for both parties. Very polite, straight forward and easy process. I was happy to hear I wasnt going to be stuck paying my debt to a new 2024 vehicle when it was in shop for 2 months and not knowing what to fix or noise coming from because after being dismantle and put back together that was not definitely what I signed up for in spending on a new vehicle. I am grateful for what was done for me during a time they took the stress over my shoulder. I certainly recommend them for anyone going through the same issues of their vehicle.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Burbank, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
