Stay Away! The office is beautiful, but they are the most unprofessional law firm. My father's health has been compramised because of their incompetence. This firm caused him stressed that took his sleep away, that lead to his declining mental health, and a stress that put him at risk for a stroke and heart attack. He felt hopeless for five years. My father started his workers comp case more than five years ago with this law firm. Knee injury. During those five plus years, -my father had to be calling constantly trying to get updates from them. It was almost none existent that they would take 5 minutes to call him to provide him with updates, and future plans on their own. -I witnessed myself when they gave my father misleading information regarding his medical insurance and the affects it would had on the case. -This office have legal assistance workers that know how to manipulate words and mislead you to understand your case where the truth its foggy and makes the client to believe on false hopes that later the worker from the office will denied his words. Not knowing or being unfamiliar with the laws they will make you feel confident about your case and then leave you in the dark with incompetence work results. They seriously mislead their clients in a very clever way. Stay away for the sake of your own health. There are many choices in Los Angeles where you can take your case. Do research on the law firm before deciding to have them represent you. On the positive note, One of the first lawyers that started working on my fathers case demonstrated empathy and answered all my fathers questions with confidence and "honesty". We met up with him once, and spoke on the phone like five times, and never heard from him again. I wonder if this lawyer still works for the firm. On the date of the trial, we got someone we had never had spoken to. And when she arrived to the court late on the day of the trial she started reading and studying my fathers case for the first time on sight. "I just received your fathers case last night and have not had the chance to go over it." One hour before going in front of the judge. lol. Our newly introduce lawyer had an interesting interaction with the workers comp lawyer. A workers comp case that had recently been transferred to a different workers comp company. Again my father and I do not understand why. I have so much more to write but I'm here just to give my honest opinion from my experience helping my father in his case. From the other reviews here, seems everyone get a different experience. Good luck with this law firm.

I was in a car accident several months ago and I was recommended Avaness Law by a good friend. I spoke with Aren Avaness and be quickly got to work. He reviewed my accident, he was able to begin the process helping get my car repaired and get me back to 100% health. His quality of work and the partnerships he has made my life go from chaos to smooth sailing. Aren and his team guided me through every step of the process. I was very impressed at the final outcome of this case. I hope I don’t get into an accident again but if I do I will be reaching out to Avaness Law. Thank you again Aren I appreciate everything you did for me.

Filing for bankruptcy was something i never thought I would have to do. I begin calling around to different firms looking for some help. I came across Kateryna Bilenka name and decided to give her a call. We spoke the same day and she explained everything to me and I decided to work with her. She was very professional and on top of the business. Whenever I had a concern, she reassured me that everything would be ok and it was. I would recommend everyone to work with the Bilenka firm.

I had an excellent experience working with Attorney Nicholas Bravo. We encountered an issue with our 2020 Jeep Wrangler, and he handled the situation with the utmost professionalism. He quickly contacted the manufacturer on our behalf, and within a short time, the vehicle was identified as a lemon law case. Thanks to his expertise, we were able to return the vehicle and receive a full refund. I highly recommend Nicholas Bravo for anyone dealing with similar issues!

When referred to Nick i was scared to call and not knowing what to expect. Nick, accepted my call, asked a few questions and I liked the fact that he tells you what occurs throughout the process and reviews documents 1st before accepting so their is no misleading or wasted time for both parties. Very polite, straight forward and easy process. I was happy to hear I wasnt going to be stuck paying my debt to a new 2024 vehicle when it was in shop for 2 months and not knowing what to fix or noise coming from because after being dismantle and put back together that was not definitely what I signed up for in spending on a new vehicle. I am grateful for what was done for me during a time they took the stress over my shoulder. I certainly recommend them for anyone going through the same issues of their vehicle.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Burbank, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
