Mr. Waller helped me prepare a pre-nuptial agreement for my wedding happening in 2024. He, along with his whole staff, was professional, responsive, and helpful throughout the entire process. He provided me with thoughtful advice without me ever feeling like he was pushing me and was very personable throughout. I would absolutely recommend Mr. Waller and his team to anyone needing a pre-nup!

I had the privilege of being represented by Liz Johnson and Mr. Waller of Feinberg & Waller for two years during an incredibly complicated case that involved the well-being of my son. Throughout this challenging period, I found Liz to be candid, exceptionally knowledgeable in family law, and an absolute treasure. She was always available, providing clear, honest advice and making a stressful situation more manageable. Their expertise, dedication, and unwavering commitment were evident in every aspect of my case. Together, they formed a formidable team that I could trust wholeheartedly with such a critical matter. I am deeply grateful for their hard work and support. Everyone at the office; Charlene, Dawn, Rachel, Megan, were always helpful, really nice and transparent with fees, trust fund, files, follow ups, etc. I highly recommend Feinberg & Waller, especially Liz Johnson and Mr. Waller, for anyone in need of skilled and compassionate legal representation.

I firmly believe that my experience with Feinberg & Waller is a narrative that demands attention. Currently, my issues/concerns/case against Feinberg & Waller, specifically Mr. Waller, is pending with the California State Bar Association. Over the course of 14 months, Mr. Waller, my attorney, withdrew a staggering $74,000 from my trust fund. Despite this substantial financial commitment, Mr. Waller represented me in court remotely on only FOUR occasions. Each time, the court appearances were delayed under the guise of settling my case, a tactic seemingly aimed at buying more time to charge me for Strategic Firm Planning Sessions and coerce additional payments from me before resolving the case. To my dismay, I discovered that I was being billed for services related to other clients' cases, including depositions, discovery, and meetings with judges. When I raised this concern with the bookkeeper, Ms. Dawn Patterson, I was met with resistance. I was charged an exorbitant sum of $29,844.12 for Strategic Firm Planning Sessions and emails with opposing counsel, despite the lack of substantial progress in my case. My attempts to question these charges were met with denial of essential information and obstruction. It took persistent efforts spanning several (7) months for me to finally obtain my electronic file, which was promised to be readily available as per my retainer agreement. Regrettably, the $29,844.12 worth of strategic firm planning sessions, team meetings, emails with opposing counsel, and similar expenses remain a mystery. Despite our exchanges and after 7 months of begging Feinberg & Waller for my electronic file, I was informed that Feinberg & Waller is not obligated to furnish any evidence that these strategic firm planning sessions occurred. This is concerning, considering my retainer agreement explicitly states that I am entitled to ALL documentation for ALL activities undertaken on my case and paid for. My inquiries about these deductions led to a substitution of attorney, leaving me without representation for my upcoming court appearance. This drastic measure was taken merely because I dared to question Feinberg & Waller's billing practices, which appeared to lack substantiated proof of the work performed. I successfully settled my case without the supposedly essential $29,844.12 worth of team meetings after being terminated by Mr. Waller due to my inquiries about his invoicing methods. This experience has left me profoundly disillusioned with Feinberg & Waller. I firmly believe that they exploit vulnerable individuals navigating emotionally charged situations, taking advantage of their financial resources and emotional well-being. Family law, an arena where empathy and understanding should prevail, has been overshadowed by profit-driven motives in their hands. I eagerly anticipate a response from Feinberg & Waller, and I am more than willing to provide all necessary documents and emails to shed light on my 14 months of dealing with them. I hope that my account serves as a cautionary tale for anyone contemplating their services, offering them a clearer understanding of the challenges they might face. If anyone requires further details or has questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

We have employed David Olson twice in two very different situations..A complicated family monetary dispute and a compensation disagreement with a large international corporation. He was excellent in both of these situations and in both cases we came out better than my most optimistic prediction. I can't imagine a future scenario that required legal assistance where I would not instantly contact and employ David. He knows his stuff and he doesn't give up!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Calabasas, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
