Sloppy and slow.... you will lose your case because Daryl Lander takes too long. He is lazy, unorganized, and turns into a puppy in court afraid to represent you! Don't EVER trust a lawyer with an online degree to represent you in an important matter!

John Hughes is awesome! I never had to worry he always had everything under control he bills fairly. Most of our communication (very little was needed) went through Nancy. I felt very taken advantage by a previous law firm but Mr Hughes took great care of my case and made it so stress free. Thank you John Hughes!

OMG! my case would be over and dead, if it had not been for attorney Daryl Lander. He was a true Godsend to me at a time when my case was literally being sabotaged, abandoned, and legal malpractice from the initial attorney. Attorney Lander picked up the case as if he were Superman 🦸‍♀️ and saved the day for this so forever grateful 🙏🏿 client.

After secretly becoming a client of the local Center for Domestic Violence, after 25 years of secrets, I got courage and traumatically filed for divorce. After my husband's latest abuse, he kidnapped all of our money and I was left desperate and finally filed for spousal support. That's when my husband got an expensive attorney in Sacramento. After a year of his lies and ridiculous actions and so many filings of things like trying to charge me rent and having me move out immediately and reduce spousal support to zero, (all denied) My husband's attorney fired my husband. After a year on my own, doing all the filings myself- a series of miracles led me to Sandy Hurley of Hurley Legal Services. This wonderful lady, with 25 years experience as a paralegal, helped me to get court ordered permission to sell some of our property to retain an attorney myself. I retained Aaron Dosh as my attorney. An excellent attorney! And after three contempt of court filings, attorneys fees awarded to me and sanctions, still my husband was offering me not one penny of settlement and we were headed to trial -which is very rare in the United States. Only 6% of divorces end up in a trial -but that was going to be us. Enter James Gwinup, in my opinion, the settlement guru of El Dorado County. I am sorry that Mr. Gwynn up had to deal with my husband as his client. But here I am, the opposing party, writing a five-star review on my husband's attorney. He is a miracle worker to get my husband to agree to a settlement - after 2 years of hell. The local county law facilitator, Mr. Michael Friel, assisted me in many ways, and he told me that a settlement is "an amount that I can live with and that I agree to". So, even though it is less than 1/4 of our net worth, I have obtained approximately $200K in cash and property. I credit this miracle, in great part, to my husband's attorney- Mr James Gwinup. I can't thank you enough, Mr Gwinup, and your office. Thank you also to Sandy Hurley, who has become my dear friend, Aaron Dosh, and his wonderful office, Mr. Michael Friel and all the ladies at the County Clerk's office and Judge Lauren Bowers. And my highest thanks goes to God, Who was with me through this greatest trauma and extremely difficult time of my life. James Gwinup has helped me to secure a settlement large enough to provide for my new future - living without being under the shadow of secret abuse. I would give him ten stars if it was possible. He is kind and knowledgeable and able to deal with the most difficult client. If you need an attorney- this is a settlement miracle worker.

I retained Mr. Weiner at the recommendation of my child's therapist. I was impressed by his genuine interest in our case, the time given to me (i never felt i was being brushed aside), his humility, and his availability and the promptness in which he responded to my inquiries. I never felt judged. My case successfully reached resolution in a matter of weeks without going through a court proceeding. He is a man of integrity. I am forever grateful for his time and expertise.

Very professional, compassionate and truly cares for people. Dain did, what others said could not be done and was told impossible. Dain saw this very unique situation/case and fought for what was right! This was a victory for Mental Health Awareness, with hopes of many more victories and awareness to come. So appreciated Dain's communication and treating us with the up most respect, even through welcoming another baby into his family. Congratulations! I would highly recommend Dain, we so appreciate all he did. Great person and attorney.

Dain is a brilliant and caring attorney. Dain was able to help me a situation that had a deadline. He was able to get the issue taken care of and in my favor. I actually did not think something like this could be taken care of and it was. Every time I would call and needed to leave a message I would hear back from Dain that same day. I was never ignored and every question was important and worth explaining. Dain is genuine and you do not get that in many attorneys... I only wish I lived in CA still and he also practiced ERISA!!! I would hire Dain again for sure!!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cameron Park, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
