Correction: Tim Chandler was not ever a client of mine. We had no relationship. Therefore his review is harassment by a disgruntled estate beneficiary. The Chandlers I did represent gave me five full stars and referrals.

Horrible mismanagement of my family’s Trust for years. One that she wrote herself, amended multiple times, and even went to my grandfather on his deathbed to have him sign an amendment when he was not in a clear state of mind. When asked for an accounting, she stalled for 9 months and then all of a sudden, no longer represents the Trust or Trustee. This woman should have her bar revoked. She will steal your family’s money and do zero work that benefits anybody but herself.

Kathy Campbell is passionate about families. She stood by my side through a very long and contentious divorce; constantly trying to elevate the ordeal to civil. I felt stunned and wounded at every turn. Kathy was my shield, the best defender. She prepared me as best as she could for court proceedings and helped me understand the law. Kathy consistently and naturally conducts herself with respect and a high moral code. She always treated me as a priority and showed concern about my wellbeing and the wellbeing of my children. I have the utmost respect for Kathy and would recommend her for anyone that needs a compassionate, solid, thorough, and professional attorney.

Kathy Campbell was a tremendous help in my divorce. We went through the collaborative divorce process and I can't say enough how engaged, kind, fair, and emotionally aware of the situation she was during the entire process. She was a great advocate for my interests but always stayed true the collaborative process. I highly recommend her.

Hiring Kathy Campbell and engaging in a Collaborative Divorce was the best choice we made while making the painful decision to dissolve our marriage and change our family structure. I had a spectacular team of coaches in my corner, with Kathy leading the way. Our whole family is now healing, healthy, and creating a new life together in a different way than we originally planned. Thank you very much, Kathy.

It is my distinct pleasure to highly recommend Janet Miller to any person wanting to establish a Special Needs Trust. Janet Miller is extremely professional in her client interactions and she is also very knowledgable and caring throughout the complex process. She understands the importance and sensitivity of what the client is trying to achieve. Janet was very patient with the 'numerous' questions I found myself wanting explained in detail, often again and again. When dealing with something as personal as this type of Trust you want someone who exhibits all the attributes that I have experienced while working with Janet Miller. In my own profession I have worked with numerous attorneys. I have regarded several as being very good in their area of expertise. It is my evaluation that Janet Miller is at the 'top of the list' in the area of Special Needs Trusts.

I have an adult deaf and special needs daughter. When I got divorced when she was 6, it was determined in our agreement that her father would continue with support payments even after she turned 18. Unfortunately, he did not honor our agreement. Janet was able to not only make him realize and hold true to his moral and financial obligation but was successful in getting back pay as well (without having to go to court). Additionally, she was always very responsive to my calls/emails.

Janet was fantastic to work with. She expertly guided us in setting up a special needs trust to support my mom's unique medical and legal situation. Janet took the time to understand our issue and provided a clear solution and worked quickly to do so. She explained our legal options in language we could understand and liaised with other attorneys to expedite the process. She was extremely responsive and easy to connect with. I would work with her again in a heartbeat. Thank you Janet!

I would like to highlight attorney Shepardsons attention to fact finding details and his extensive experience litigating successfully in a number of civil cases involving both large corporation entities and governmental agencies. I would highly recommend his law firm, he definitely has the best interest of his clients and has a vast knowledge of the law.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Campbell, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
