The level of appreciation I have for Jenn McCabe and her team of associates is hard to put into words. The court system could really be described as a foreign land. One that is unfamiliar and structured in such a way that it’s almost impossible to navigate on your own. So if you find yourself having to enter into this system with a deeply emotional or traumatic situation on hand the pressure to have a wider perspective on how that system works is essential! That’s where Jenn McCabe came in and completely changed the trajectory of my case the moment she took it on. She goes above and beyond to do whatever she needs to do to give you the best fighting chance in court. Before I had Jenn I had so much anxiety entering the court room. After having her as my advocate she represented me in court better then I could have ever done and I finally got the justice I deserved. This brought down my anxiety and kept me safe knowing someone else I could trust was representing me and presenting my case the best way possible. I’ve had an ongoing custody battle for over 2 years now and after hiring Jenn and her team I was able to attain full custody of my son and child support. Bottom line if you’re looking for a highly competent, experienced and hardworking lawyer you can be assured that Jenn will meet all your expectations and more. I am beyond grateful for her guidance and level of professionalism. She’s the real deal and very pleasant to work with, down to earth and passionate in what she does. All my gratitude to Jenn and her team again I couldn’t have done it without them!

Ms McCabe is hands down the best lawyer around. She immediately made me feel at ease, discussed all options and made sure I understood everything. I feel like she went above and beyond for me, however I somehow suspect she makes all her clients feel that way. I recommend her to everyone.

I wish I had found Jenn earlier. I worked with two different lawyers, and interviewed many more during my divorce and ongoing custody battle erc. Jenn knows the local judges and opposing counsel, she understands the social aspect of divorce. If you think Family Law is precise and orderly, cut and dry, you need Jenn's help. Jenn can take the lead and drive the entire process or she can help you with forms and procedures if you are Pro Per needing more of a review attorney. That is how I worked with Jenn. Unlike other attorneys, she is NOT quick to bill for every tiny email. When it came time for me to change the venue for my case, Jenn even sent me a template for the motion I could use. She tried to make this difficult process easier. As a small office, if you need a response to calls/emails within a few hours, there are times Jenn might not respond fast enough. I recommend Jenn highly.

Michael "Mike" Brodsky is doing a great job fighting on behalf of residents of the Delta to defeat the Governor's water tunnels. We hired Michael to sue the government to stop the tunnel plan. He fights for us in the courtroom and we are so glad he is on our side. He is a great environmental attorney and knows all the ins and outs of litigating against the state government.

I found myself up against a forged and falsified lease agreement with my ex and the tenants who rented our cabin. The first two lawyers I called said, "good luck." My third call was to Miles Dolinger. After hearing of my situation he simply said, "let me do some research and call you back.' I received that call back a few hours later and he shared with me his findings. I hired him right then over the phone. Long story short the tenants were served papers written up by Miles and within 30 days they had vacated the property. This matter bled into a Hawaii Property matter I was also entangled in with the ex. I kept Miles on as my representation for the California property and as mitigator to my Hawaii Attorney. It is my conclusion that of the four lawyers that were negotiating this "complex and dual-state issue", Miles would be the only one I would ever rehire. His alignment/walk with integrity and honesty was miles high above the other attorneys. TRUE NORTH PRINCIPLES, IMPECCABLE INTEGRITY AND HONORABLE HONESTY. Endless gratitude from me to Attorney Miles Dolinger!

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Capitola, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
