Pros
1
Extensive expertise in HOA law and ability to achieve favorable outcomes
“If you have a legal problem with an HOA in Southern California, you'd be crazy not to consult Danielle. She is a specialist in HOA law, and it is no exaggeration to say that if I'd hired her in the first place, I'd have paid out half of what I ultimately did.”
2
Highly efficient and effective at resolving cases quickly
“Danielle is a no-nonsense, highly efficient attorney. She told me where I stood, and made a quick favorable settlement--exactly as she said she would.”
3
Provides excellent value with reasonable billing rates and refunds
“Her overhead is also low, which is reflected in her billing rate. She even returned more than 10 percent of the modest retainer she'd asked for.”
4
Extremely knowledgeable, professional, and caring in her approach
“When I met Danielle in Late July of this year I was in a horrible situation with my landlord and... she was nothing less than professional and understanding. She listened with care and took notes walked thru my home with me as I showed her what I was dealing with.”
5
Responsive, patient, and excellent communicator
“She has been prompt in the return of phone calls and emails. Which is huge. There is nothing more frustrating than an attorney that doesn't return calls or you struggle to get hold of. Danielle breaks things down to idiot terms so the average person can understand.”

My HOA was having problems and our property manager was lying often and withholding financial documents, so I hired Danielle Wakefield for help. She gave me information about my rights as a homeowner, and she fought on my behalf to get straight answers from board members and the property manager. Her expertise changed my situation because she empowered me and let the property manager know that his actions were no longer going to be tolerated. Shortly after I hired Ms. Wakefield, the property manager resigned, and our HOA is running much better. If you are at the point where you are looking for an attorney for a similar matter, I suggest contacting this attorney sooner rather than later.

It is my absolute pleasure to recommend Danielle Wakefield. My daughter and I were deeply involved in two separate but related civil cases. Danielle represented me throughout the lengthy and often tedious process of litigation. She remained positive, always encouraging me to do the same. Her compassionate and caring approach gave me hope and confidence. She was personable, honest and straightforward regarding all aspects of the case. Danielle was ultimately successful in securing the dismissal of my case and preventing any further action against me. For that, I am eternally grateful! Her knowledge, expertise and professionalism set her apart from others in her trade. She is extremely hardworking, highly efficient and presents herself perfectly. Here is a dedicated lawyer who is willing to go the extra mile for you. When all is said and done, she is more than just a great lawyer, she is truly a lovely and gracious lady at heart. You cannot go wrong with Danielle!

I am an attorney, and when I needed an attorney to defend me and my family against an unlawful eviction I was incredibly lucky to find Danielle Wakefield! When the home we were leasing was sold in a foreclosure sale, the new owner immediately began a campaign to intimidate us into leaving so he could flip the house. Initially I was able to ignore and deflect the landlord’s many attempts to get rid of us, but when he attempted to cancel our lease and brought a fraudulent unlawful detainer action against us I knew I was in over my head. Landlord-Tenant law is well outside of my practice area, so I started to look for an attorney to represent us. After meeting with a few underwhelming attorneys we started to lose hope, but then we found Danielle! She is an exceptional attorney! She immediately took over the case and exposed the landlord’s lies and wrongdoing to the court—successfully defending our eviction. Since her decisive victory in the erroneous unlawful detainer action, Danielle has represented us in our suit against our landlord to recover the damages incurred as a result of his actions. Over the last two years I am sure that I have gotten on Danielle’s last nerve more than a few times with my constant questions and unsolicited legal theories, but she has remained professional and steadfast throughout the entire process. I cannot recommend Danielle enough. She is a fierce litigator and unwavering advocate for her clients. We could not have found a better lawyer!

Words can’t express how grateful we are to have had Danielle Wakefield as our attorney! Not only is she extremely knowledgeable, precise and organized, but she deeply cares about her clients and gives over 100%. We had a nightmare situation and she came to our rescue. We were renting a house, when without notice, it was sold in a foreclosure. The new owners, a billion dollars company, wanted to flip it right away, so they did everything they could to threaten and scare my husband, four kids and me, us out of our home. We had a 2 year lease already existing, so they didn’t have the right to evict us, but they definitely tried. They threatened us with cash for keys or a lawsuit… told us we’d have an eviction on our records and would never be able to rent again. Then posted a 3-day notice to quite sign, on our front door. Even though we knew we had our rights to stay in our home, we didn’t know how to fight off all the threats. We then endured a water leak, so we contacted the owners to fix it, but instead of doing the right thing, they served us a 7-day notice to leave, followed by an unlawful detainer lawsuit. WHAT? That’s when we found Danielle, and she saved our lives. She took on our case and fought hard for us, for over two years! She immediately made us feel at ease! She made us aware of our rights, walked us through every step and became the voice for us, that we really needed!! She is absolutely AMAZING and we feel so extremely blessed we found her and she agreed to represent us. We will forever be so grateful for Danielle and all her hard work. I would highly recommend her Danielle Wakefield! Not only is she passionate and thorough with a big heart, but she’s a bulldog in the courtroom! She’s simply… THE BEST!

I've worked with Sara off and on over a 10-year period in a challenging and complicated divorce situation. Sara has always been helpful and responsive. She has remained calm and kind even when I wasn't. She has been honest and never gave me false hope or set unrealistic expectations. Instead, she has helped me understand the strengths and weaknesses in my case so I could make informed, clear minded decisions. Sara knows the family court system well and the people involved in the system. She also understands its limitations. The unique thing about Sara is that she's a good person ... and I can't say this about other family law attorneys I've worked with. She has looked out for me and my family's best interests while other family law attorneys I've used always managed to prioritize their financial interests above all else.

Greg helped me with my BK and was absolutely fantastic in every way. Very honest and helpful, even got a creditor who came back years later to stop harassing me for requests of payment. Was very responsive to everything i asked and had the experience to make the process as stress free as possible. Thank you Greg!

Greg restored my faith in the legal system and I would recommend him to anyone/everyone who's recently been in a car accident. I was in an unfortunate accident two weeks ago and was in shock when I called up my car insurance company and was immediately pushed into giving a recorded statement. I felt steamrolled by my insurance company (they are not your ally), especially since they immediately pronounced me 100% at-fault without any defense (and without even letting me know). I needed an expert coach to get me through the process and defend my rights. I started calling attorneys and after 15 calls of bureaucratic rejections I felt defeated. These large legal "corporations" would have a rep answer the phone, punch my info into a computer, and then say, "Sorry, but we don't cover minor accidents". I was literally about to give up (and cry), but then Attorney Hood picked up the phone. Yes... he, the actual attorney, called me back and asked for my full story: what happened, why did I feel cheated, etc. He was compassionate, patient, and infinitely helpful. He started sending me legal terms to use and lawsuits to reference. He took the time to actually show/explain to me my rights. I can't thank you enough Greg! Highly highly recommend!

Ms Hersch has helped me with various issues over the past several years. She is honest and has the highest ethics. Besides being highly competent what I really love about her is that she really cares about me. She makes that clear in the way that she listens and takes time to arrive at the very best approach to solve the problems I set before her. I would never want to use anyone else. She is the best.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Carlsbad, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
