I contacted Michael for assistance with a child custody case. I am a Senior IT professional who resides in a remote area and was looking for an Attorney who was familiar working remote/over the internet and had extensive experience in family law and was IT savvy. What made me decide to choose Michael? Well see for yourself at his website at www.rivercityattorney.com For me Michael was the perfect fit! He was a Court appointed Minors counsel, was comfortable working with long distance clients via internet, and was the Chair of Technology section of the Sacramento Co. Bar for 3 years! I felt very confident after reading his credentials I was approaching the Attorney I needed! I was not wrong! He is very patient, honest, caring, responsive, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and professional. He was aggressive in representation and negotiation of my case, top notch skills! He is a straight shooter and was up front about what I needed to do on my own part and when it needed to be accomplished. He supported and guided me every step of the way through a very stressful and difficult situation and made it clear the details of the case were of the utmost importance. He helped me obtain clarity on what was needed as the case progressed and was not lax on providing digital copies of any documents needed. Michael does not outsource any work to paralegals or secretaries which was a plus for me as any communications I had with Michael were from him, and were prompt. If you find yourself in a situation requiring legal representation I highly recommend Mr. Michael Crosson! I can't say enough good things about him in this review. If you are looking and find yourself on the fence, don't hesitate, contact him!

A friend suggested I hire Michael to help with a custody case. My ex and I really didn't see eye to eye on anything and we went round and round trying to deal with it ourselves. Finally I had enough and was ready to go to court. Michael was very knowledgeable about family law and listened to my issues. He gave me my options and we discussed the best to handle my situation in detail. After mediation and court I was happy with the results. He was prepared and professional. My bill was a little higher than I expected, but not unfair. It was well worth it to have more peace now. Thanks Michael!

These are my comments pertaining to Michael W. Crosson serving as my attorney. The difficulty in appointing a Divorce Attorney could be very time consuming and frustrating at times. First of all, you don't know which one to trust or feel confident that he or she will do a good job for you. Michael was highly recommended to me ,My first impression of Michael was that he appeared to be as gentle as a teddy bear. At first this was a concern. But after working with him and watching him perform his job in court, the teddy bear became fierce with a growl. Michael did an excellent job as my attorney. I was asked to provide a lot of input and paperwork which I was not excited about. What's important here is that you have Michael that will listen to your concern and be assertive when needed in court. He is a friend and a lawyer I can trust.

I am not writing this review in the beginning of a difficult legal situation, I am writing it 6 months out from the rescue that Mr. Crosson guided us through. We had just navigated a successful loan mod on our home of 14 yrs when we were served with a lawsuit from a busines creditor. We thought we had done everything as rightly as possible and were suddenly faced with a whole new set of possibilities that were almost all bad. Michal Crosson was, in our opinion, the logical, objective, clarity of thought we needed to make some major decisions. His perspective is one of data and reality and not of emotionality and fear. He helped us weigh out every scenario and let us be the final decision makers. Once we had really come to terms with what we were dealing with we secured Mr. Crosson as our legal representative and I am thankful for that choice. We have been through a difficult set of circumstances and have come out the other side and are in a fantastic situation now. He made it clear to us that the details of the case were of utmost importance. He helped us get clarity on what we needed as we went along. I would highly reccommend him if you are in a debt or lawsuit situation!

Meriam is a pleasure to work with. She gives competent, legal representation and remains very aware of the client's best interest. The thing I appreciate most is how aware Meriam of the impact of her billable hours on a company. She worked hard to get to a good end result with a minimum of billable hours - a trate I have not always experienced from other attornies. .

This lawyer seems to be quite expertise in this field as well as very responsive. He jumped right into my case and was avid about seeing this through. He not only spoke about making a plan for my situation he also listened when I had questions. This lawyer seems to be very proffessional and yet down to earth and easy to understand my situation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Carmichael, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
