Excellent, efficient services and appreciated that their whole team was available to work with us. Our home study agency had closed so they had to go through some hurdles to figure out who to get on the paperwork, but were able to have a backup plan and helped us successfully complete our re-adoption process.

Saw Atty. Tsong’s profile on the internet and decided to contact him to inquire regarding drawing a surrogacy contract for us. He answers emails and even texts immediately and we are satisfied with the efficiency and timeliness of the contracts he prepared for us. He is very easy to talk to and has the patience to explain and answer questions. And the prices for the services are reasonable. We definitely recommend Atty Tsong.

This firm, namely Cheyla, is top tier in their communication and eagerness to help. Cheyla got back to me moments after I’d called the office with concerning representation which in not typical for a law firm. She informed me that their firm could not take on my case, but then she contacted her colleague on my behalf. I was represented within 48 hours of initial contact with this firm. Just amazing service all around.

When we first contacted JML Law, we had faced numerous rejections from other law firms. From the moment we spoke with Cheyla, it was clear that we were in the right place. Cheyla’s attentiveness and empathetic listening made a world of difference as we described our complex situation. Despite the length of our explanation, she remained patient and understanding. Although we were initially disheartened to learn that Eric, a lawyer with outstanding reviews, wouldn't be able to take on our case, Cheyla didn’t let us give up hope. Her dedication shone through as she worked tirelessly to find us the right legal representation. Thanks to her efforts, we were eventually matched with a lawyer who could help us. JML Law, and especially Cheyla, exceeded our expectations. Their commitment to their clients and their unwavering support is exactly what our legal system needs. If you’re seeking legal assistance, I highly recommend reaching out to JML Law. Cheyla’s honesty, hard work, and exceptional service ensure you’re in good hands. Thank you, JML Law, for having such a remarkable team member.

Cheyla is amazing. She was supportive and determined to find a lawyer that would take my case. If it weren’t for her assistance and diligence, I would have given up hope due to the lack of time and the amount of stress that I was feeling with everything taking place in my life.

Attorney Jason Martinez was absolutely fantastic to me and my family throughout my case. He always considered my bottom dollar throughout the duration of the case and the entire staff was always able to help with whatever questions I had. Attorney Martinez not only “won” my case but assured me and walked me through the entirety of it. I’d recommend this office for ANY and ALL family law needs. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be than with these great folks. 15/10 would recommend for anyone else. My case took years to wrap up and there was never a moment I felt that my wants/needs/voice was going unheard. Definitely the best legal service I’ve ever had!

I would like to thank Udo for assisting me in a legal battle against an unforeseen eviction hanging from my door, and she came to the rescue when no one else did. She was kind, helpful and heedful to all my concerns. I had very little time to respond to the actions against and she put the pedal to the metal and worked tirelessly to meet the deadline. We prevailed and we were victorious, and I am thankful I was introduced to Udo. She is a solid choice for an attorney and I highly recommend her.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Cerritos, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
