I'm just really disappointed with my experience with this office. They really let me down. I gave Mr. Bently who works for Joe vandervoort $5,000 to write court documents for me. Although this was a lot of money I was confident that he knew what he was doing. I had to constantly call the office to get him to work on it(around 50 calls) most of the time i was unable to reach him. He said himself that he would need me on the phone while he worked on it, So he only spent a couple hours on my documents. 1 year later my documents were denied and mr Bently said it would cost me another $1500 to appeal it. I was homeless and broke. I borrowed the money from my family. If this was done correctly I would have been living happily with shelter and family but I had to live in my vehicle throughout the pandemic and not to mention I got covid 19. I wish they cared enough to not rip me off, I wish that mr. Bently treated this matter professionally and correctly.

I would like to share the profound impact Joe VanDervoort and his staff has had on my life. I was facing long term, mandatory jail time and I was consumed with fear that my life was over. The best decision I ever made was placing the out-come in Joe's hands. I asked, "What was I to do?" Joe simply smiled and said, "relax, we're going to keep you out of jail. I'll take care of everything; you live your life." I followed his instructions and my life was not only restored, but improved as a result of this seemingly impossible experience. To say "money well spent" would be grossly understating the level of professionalism of Mr. VanDervoort and his legal staff.

I was facing allot of problems with my case and Mr. VanDevoort and I were able to sit and talk about the best way to resolve it. We probably did not always agree 100% on the route to go but in the end all was explained and we did choose the right one. He is very easy to work with and will always have your best interest in mind. His results were very satisfying. If you are in need of a lawyer I would recommend him 100%.

First, thank you to Dawn, Joe's always attentive and considerate office manager that I spoke to at least a hundred times! Dawn kept me sane at times when Mr. Vandervoort was unavailable and really helped me out with the whole legal process during my case. She went above and beyond what I expected and for that I say THANK YOU DAWN!!! As for Mr Vandervoort it was an education process from the get go! I believe when anyone hires a lawyer that they believe they have a chance at getting a fair deal out of it and I was no different. It has nothing to do with the fact that you hire this person to represent you in a manner that far exceeds what a Public Defender can or even will do for you but goes into the realm of above and beyond your expectations. This was the first time I have ever felt the need to hire an attorney and I must admit it was an overwhelming experience. I knew I was in over my head and I just had this gut feeling that getting a professional would be the way to go. I was so right! My initial visit was started on time, was not rushed one bit and I felt properly informed/prepared for what was to come. I thought for sure the first thing that was going to be discussed was PAYMENT. I was WRONG! That was the last thing we discussed and for that amongst many reasons are why I hired Mr. Vandervoort and his associates to handle my complicated case. My case had many, many, MANY different twists and turns but not once did I ever feel that I was not being represented properly. Mr. Vandervoort set my mind at ease during a very stressful period in my life. Not only did I lose a very close family member in the months before I walked into Mr. Vandervoorts' office but I was also relocating to a different area for a major medical operation that put me in the dirt in a major way. I thought I was screwed for sure because of being on so much medication and just being plain out of it. I couldn't have been more wrong. Not only did Mr. Vandervoort, his associates and Dawn help guide me along with filing new motions to help me extend my trial so I could be coherent during the whole time but it was all done from about 250 miles away....and I felt great about it. This was not something I just threw money at and said, "take care of it." No. This was something that required my full attention to the best of my ability and together we achieved the best possible outcome. Now, I don't know about anyone else but handling a case in person is stressful enough but via telephone, email, fax and text messages? That is a whole different ball game but they nailed it for me and I couldn't be happier with my experience. In closing I would just like to say that if you find yourself in a compromising position and need the assistance of professional, courteous and prompt attorney then you should look no further than Joe Vandervoort! Thank you!

When I was picked up one night by CHP, I thought my life as I knew it was over. My wife all but disowned me. I had many, many people in my life to explain the situation to. My circumstances were I was off the freeway, outside my vehicle, and CHP never saw me driving. But as I found out later, these circumstances still can get you for DUI. I did not know where to turn or what to do next. I found this law office on the internet. I wound up meeting with Geoff Dulebohn from this law office. He was able to guide me through the whole process and answer my questions along the way. If you find yourself in this unfortunate situation, I would not hesitate to call upon this office to get you through.

Matthew Luzaich hands down has to be one of the best attorneys out there! When he represents you in court he makes you feel like you are his top priority. Matthew was very professional and would promptly get back to me every time I contacted him. He was able to get the judge to wave some court fees saving me money in this expensive process. Mr. Luzaich went out of his way to help me after my case was "resolved" with the court. When you hire Matthew S. Luzaich you get the best legal representation, bar none, in Northern California. Mr. Luzaich is a bulldog in court, he knows how to get the job done. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is searching for an attorney.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Chico, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
