Madrid law firm not only helped me get through my case from the very beginning, but they also provided me the best outcome I could ask for. I had no idea how to defend myself and what tools I needed to use in court. Erica laid out all the facts, all the possible scenarios, and guided me with full determination to beat my case. Madrid law firm goes above and beyond. They answered all my calls, all my texts, and all my questions when I needed it! Thank you Erica and Ed for everything you have done! I would highly recommend this firm to anyone who needs help with their case. You guys rock! Thank you!

Criminal defense attorney John Murray was absolutely instrumental in my DUI case. Please use John if you ever have to defend yourself in the SB County courts. It was so crucial to my case that he had the expertise to deal with the Victorville court, knew the prosecutors, and was an absolute expert when it came to the substantive law. At a point in my life when I was freaking out about this setback, he made it feel so seamless and could talk me through the legal issues, handling the court appearances and formulating the case strategy. You need someone like John.

Pros
1
Highly knowledgeable and experienced lawyers who provide excellent legal representation
“John Murray, Criminal Defense Attorney, handled my case at West Covina Courthouse with the upmost caring and knowledge of the specific laws to resolve my case.”
2
Responsive and attentive to client needs, keeping them informed throughout the process
“John was great he kept me informed of what was going on and he gave me the best legal defense.”
3
Achieve favorable outcomes for clients, including getting charges reduced or dismissed
“He got me a deal with no jail time and got me into a program and electronic monitoring instead.”
4
Compassionate and understanding, especially in sensitive or difficult situations
“I grew up in a toxic environment and later went on to have a few abusive relationships. In the last one at the end I was cited for a misdemeanor vandalism of my exes car. As a woman in her upper 30s with very little help, knowing that if charged my professional license could be suspended and all the stressors of having a criminal history was too much for me to even think about. He was so compassionate and wanted to help me.”
5
Flexible payment options and billing, working with clients on a case-by-case basis
“He worked with me on a payment plan. My mental state when I hired him was horrible because of the situations I had been in.”
Cons
1
Some clients report issues with communication and responsiveness from the lawyers
“Funny how you try to contact them and they can't seem to help you lmao, by the looks of it the other reviews are fake, you literally try asking them a question regarding a case and they say they can't help you, seriously? how much time you need 1 year before your court date for you to be able to help them?”
2
A few clients had negative experiences with poor service, unprofessional behavior, or unethical practices
“DON'T HIRE THIS CLOWN. Once he said "Just wait until you see me in action" but later I noticed when opposing attorney or opposing party gets aggressive he just turns weak. He violated his duty by closing discovery without my permission. He ignored all calls, emails and texts for a long time.”

My husband is a small business owner who's business has continued to grow over the last few years. And with this continued growth we have experienced many common legal issues that arise for small business owners. My husband is a busy man and was worried how he would be able to handle the legal issues arising around us. Kariann came to us from a referral from a friend. She quickly took over and was able to get everything under control for us. She kept us in the loop at all times. We felt very confident with her by outside. She is well organized and very trust worthy. She works hard and puts her clients first. We call her when ever we need help and we have other friends who now use her legal services!!!

I hired Mr. Gutierrez 3 years ago regarding a civil case personal land dispute with another party. He has many years of experience in civil cases and knowledge in this area of law. Mr. Gutierrez has personally handled my case for me with personal care and respect. He has always been available to speak to me regarding filings and case law. Whenever, motions were filed he has keep me informed of the situation and fully informed me of outcomes or possible results of the actions taken by him. During this time we have met many times to review file and map out a plan. What I have appreciated most of Mr. Gutierrez is his positive attitude, professional manner, and direct personal communication with me. I would highly recommend Mr. Gutierrez as an attorney with confidence. Thank you Mr. Gutierrez

When the Montebello Unified School District hired the law firm of Jimmy Gutierrez, we were already involved in a pending litigation matter with a general contractor who had a history of suing school districts, for general contract work. As a Board of Education we were not satisfied with the direction the lawsuit was headed under a previous firm, in other words, if we where to lose, our school district could be liable for millions. In a matter of several weeks after retaining Mr. Gutierrez's law firm, as a result of their professional and legal expertise and general contract knowledge, our school district prevailed and ended up winning the case and we saved millions of dollars to the tax-payers. In my 23 years as a member of the board of education, this was a milestone and historic verdict in favor of our school district. While this law suit occurred years ago, many of us still talk about this case as a lesson to be learned from when dealing with difficult general school contractors.

Only spoke to her on the phone and I'm totally satisfied that she was not able to take my particular case. Lol. Kathy Jo was intelligent, down-to-earth, accommodating my ignorance of the probate process and honest. Thank you for your time and your attentiveness.

Ms. Patterson is a true professional lawyer. I have used her services at least three times in the past 8 years. She was always pleasant to discuss my cases by walking me through the legal process and discussing my options. She always made herself available to sit down and go over the issues step by step and update me on a regular basis on the status of my cases. What I appreciate the most is that I always felt being protected when she is handling my cases. She really fights to get the issues settled to my best interest. In all three cases the issues were settled in my favor. Two of those were contract disputes and the third was a real state transaction worth $80,000. I saw her in real action through mediation sessions and let me tell you....she was a real aggressive lawyer fighting to the end for an acceptable resolution to my case. Her fees were extremely reasonable and she will always be my first choice to go to lawyer.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.

Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What challenges do you foresee in my case?
Understanding potential obstacles helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to resolve my legal issue?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Chino, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
