In the midst of calling different immigration attorneys, I was referred to Attorney Larry Kuo because I am preparing to file a petition for a Fiancé Visa (K1). I had spent hours doing research in preparation for the petition, but the information that Attorney Larry Kuo gave me really shows how much experience he has dealing with immigration cases. His instructions were very clear; he was very professional and patient in answering all of my questions. He really took his time to make sure that I understood all of the information he was giving me, and that is something that my fiancé and I greatly appreciated since we didn’t get that with any other attorneys that we contacted. I will definitely be recommending Attorney Larry Kuo to any of my family or friends because I am 100% sure that they’ll be in good hands. Thank you Larry!

Trust! Talk about an attorney who has earned my trust. I was a 1st time offender and very worried and unsure of the whole criminal and legal process. Larry put my worries at ease and took good care of me and my case. He constantly kept me informed and gave updates!

Larry Kuo is an experienced, thorough, and insightful attorney who will always go the extra mile. To secure the privacy of the parties involved, I will not reveal specific details of the case. In summary to Larry's services, he represented me to correct a legal error dating back to 1998. Even thought the original transcripts and case history has long since been archived, Larry was able to locate the files and successfully resolve the issue within a matter of weeks.

I was headed home when a driver in another vehicle made a left hand turn in front of me. My truck was totaled, my only thought was that I was grateful that my wife and children where not in the truck with me. Going from 50 mph to 0 almost instantly can and will do major damage to human beings. The Law Offices of Larry C.H. Kuo did a fantastic job in representing and guiding me through this whole ordeal. Larry Kuo made sure I received full compensation for my injuries as well as the difficulties I endured during, and after my accident. I am so thankful for him and the rest of the staff who fought for me and my case.

I retained Larry Kuo as my attorney for my adjustment of status, and he went above and beyond in his representation of my case. After my husband and I were married, I wanted to apply for a green card. I was skeptical at first in hiring any attorney but my friend introduced us to Larry. His legal fees were reasonable and he provided an honest assessment of my case. He kept me informed and updated me as to the progress of the case and returned my calls promptly each time I had a question. When we received our interview, he met us and told us what to expect. Within 6 months of my initial application, my application was approved. I am happy to say that I am now a conditional green card holder. After 10 years of not being able to see my parents in the Philippines, I can now finally visit them. I could not have done this without Larry's help and I would highly recommend him to anyone with an immigration problem.

I have consulted with many attorneys in the past in Rowland Heights area, but Di Li is by far the BEST !! She is not only very knowledgable, but also extremely patient to answer all our questions and concerns. Because of her, we had our marriage interview today on 07/10/2019, and we got APPROVED the SAME DAY!!! I am very satisfied with her & her team's help (must give credit to all her team members), they are absolutely professional and experienced on doing their job. Highly recommend her to everyone who has need for a great lawyer that can make things work. FYI, she speaks perfect Chinese and English. If English is not your first language and you have hard time to fill legal forms or need some serious help on your case, do not hesitate to give her a call during her office hour, trust me, you will get an answer, not another question throw back to you.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of City of Industry, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
