Thank you Christopher Dietrich! I do not have the words to express the gratitude I feel for what you’ve done for my daughters and I. You pulled my case out of the deep, dark hole it was in and brought it to light with your knowledge of the law and the court system. When we first met I was angry, frustrated, and I just wanted to fight. Had we done that, I think we’d have won a few rounds but never achieved what we did. You changed me. Your approach to family law has changed the way I look at co-parenting, and has changed the way I will proceed going forward. Your suggestions were against all of my instincts however, I put my case in your hands and little by little we just continued progressing forward until the end. Your planning and attention to detail were incredible. The only mistakes in my case were the times I didn’t listen to you. That’s why put my case in your hands. Now my daughter’s will enjoy the peace and harmony of the environment you helped create for them. Family cases are never easy for anyone involved but, I highly recommend Christopher Dietrich if you wish to achieve the greatest outcome with the least amount of collateral damage. As serious as this case was, I cannot believe how peacefully it ended, and now, having been giving the tools to do so, I wish to continue keeping it so. Thanks again Chris!

I had this firm create a trust for my son because I had health concerns which made such a trust expedient. I called to inquire about this same trust and waited for a response for a week. I then called again and waited. When I called the third time I was told it's preparer wasn't "well versed" in such matters, and that (presumably) was the reason I had not received a response. My take on this: This law firm didn't see my inquiry as a way to make a significant profit, and thus chose to ignore my request. I would not recommend this firm for anything based upon my experience.

Chris will take your money, and not follow through on anything. This guy messed up my case, & got nothing done! Plus, he doesn't believe in case law for spousal support even in long term marriage. He had my complete file for years and didn't touch the retirement issues. He had multiple witnesses show up for a trial and then threatened to stop me as a client in the hallway before trial if I did not stipulation with my X. He favors men! He ignored my calls, and made up excuses, & had personal issues. He doesn't keep verbal agreements.

Had them do a conservator for my father. They messed up the paperwork. 3 times, and I gave them all the information that was needed the first time I met with them. Showed up in court would not acknowledge me until after the judge was done. Then he told me that another mistake in the paperwork had happened. He would have to resubmit the paperwork to the court. Wish I had found a better attorney Total waste of money and time, at the time I was dealing with my father who was dying

Sherine has been an enormous help to me during a high conflict and difficult time. She is both professional and incredibly thoughtful and I am so grateful to her for her understanding and patience with her clients like myself. She makes me feel safe and taken care of. She has invested personal time in reaching out to me to ensure things are going smoothly with my case and problem-solve whatever comes my way. I can't say enough good things about her. She's got you covered on the legal side of things, but also just makes you feel like you're being genuinely cared for by a friend. She is strong-mannered, detail oriented, and I've heard her be compared to a shark (in the best way) while in court. I also appreciate how strongly she advocates for those having trouble fighting for themselves. I can only hope that more people who are struggling find her because she is such an incredible resource.

How do you beat the best offense? By paying attention! Having a keen eye with a quick response. In my case, I got lucky to have an attorney who actually cares about me and the best interest for My family. Best part about Sherine is that she will quickly find the hidden secrets Lingering in the dark. Don’t be shy or scared to tell her everything. That’s why she’s there. To protect you. To help you. To be your shining light at the end of the tunnel. Don’t go to war with this attorney. YOU’LL LOSE.

I called Sherine's office completely out of hope and at a loss for what step to take next. I was immediately comforted by her wonderful and compassionate office staff who have been always been extremely helpful and supportive. Sherine passionately cares about her clients and uses her extensive legal experience to do everything she can to put you at ease. Despite every curveball that was thrown in my Child Custody/ DV case, Sherine and her staff have always been persistent, knowledgable and handled my case with a sense of urgency. I am forever grateful for the help, support and feeling a safety that I felt after choosing Sherine's office to represent me.

Nora Roos is hard working and highly educated. She has exceptional interpersonal skills and analytical skills. She was fierce as my attorney. I was lucky to have found her. She listen and took notes and then she got to work on my case. Numerous hours were spent researching and relaying her findings to me and my options. She made herself available to me and kept me informed. I could not have asked for anything more in an attorney.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Davis, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
