First time filing for bankruptcy and Janine gave me the worst experience. She was flat out rude, non professional and confrontational at some times. I never met her in person due to covid. Everything was over the phone. There was a time where I made a mistake and she yelled at me and said "I don't have time for this" and hung up on me. I paid her for her time. I felt so disrespected so many times. There were several times where she gave me false information in regards to my case as if she were trying to sabotage me and I corrected her. It seemed as if she wasn't on my side and not trying to help me win my case. I don't know what she's going through in life but I hope she learns to treat her clients with respect while she's struggling.

Mrs. esquivel filed bankruptcy for me and my husband. She explained things to us very well. My sister used her to file her bankruptcy case too. As long as you schedule an appointment, you see her or someone at her office. Either Mrs.Esquivel or her assistant returned our calls in a timely fashion.

I went in to their office for a consultation and I hired her because she seemed very nice and professional. I paid her her attorney fees up front and whenever she needed money for an application fee i would go give it to her because she can't submit something without the fees. At the beginning it was really good they would call when ever they needed more paperwork or signatures and I would go down to the office. The problem started towards the very near end of my process when they just stopped calling me and giving me updates. It was very hard to get a hold of them thru the phone and even in their office. I would go to the office to try and get information about my case and it was always closed. When there was someone there I would try to make an appointment but they would tell me i couldn't make one with Janine because she never let them know when she would come to the office. That she just came in whenever and they wouldn't be able to tell me which day to go in. I was very upset because even if they didn't feel like finishing my case they could of communicated with me and let me know so I could of hired another attorney and not have me wasted money and time. Now my case is closed and I will have to pay another two thousand to file again plus attorney fees. They need to communicate better with their clients because to this day I still haven't heard anything from her office and the only reason i know my case is closed is because I called the National Visa Center to find out what was going on and they let me know. I just let it go because I got tired of trying to reach them but I do feel like I got scammed by them and they made me lose money.

I filed a chapter 13 bankruptcy with Janine in 2010. I met with three other bankruptcy attorneys before I decided to go with Janine. She took the time to explain how a chapter 13 worked and how I could get the second loan removed from my home through my bankruptcy. I only have a couple of months left before I complete chapter 13. The office staff is very nice to me every time I call. I am glad I had an attorney like Janine through my difficult financial times.

I was referred to the Adiuvo Law and met with Janine. I am very grateful for her understanding about my familys situation. She explained everything about the bankruptcy process in detail. The assistants and other attorneys at Adiuvo were always very nice to me when I kept calling their office with questions through out the process. I filed Chapter 7 and would use Janine again and am recommending her to my friends.

This man is the truth! I’d recommend no one else. Professional. Driven. Connected. I’ve had prior attorneys in my life, nobody holds a candle to Yan Shraberman. He is the best I’ve had, and the best I think there is to offer. I’m a father, and let’s put it like this… if my son were to need council I’d hire Yan. Again! Straight up the best!

Mr. Jones answered my consultation call about my DUI and gave me helpful information about next possible steps for my case. Even though I already hired an attorney who kind of messed up my case, David listened to me and helped me figure out what I can do to possibly fix it even though he didn't have to. I really appreciated that he did not pressure me to hire him, but was just trying to be helpful. If you hire him, I'm sure he'd put your best interests first and fight for you.

I hired David a while ago for my case in which he was able to bring my felony charge down to a misdemeanor. Now that I have finished my probation, I asked David for advice on what to do for closure and he was incredibly helpful. I didn’t know there were ways to put my situation behind me and with David’s help I am at ease with what happened and for my future. I recommend David for anyone who wants an attorney who will fight for you and continue being helpful even after your case has been closed.

I met with Mr. Jones about a DUI charge. He was very informative and helpful. He answered my call after business hours and told me what to expect in court the next day, he did this even though I was not his client at the time. Trust me... save yourself money and headache and hire Mr. Jones.

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fresno, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
