Ms. Erika Becker represented me recently in Juvenile Dependency Court. She stepped in and stepped up to defend me and worked hard to make sure my child was returned to me. She helped lead me through what I considered a terrifying time of my life. She was always there to answer questions and responded to my phone, text and emails right away. With her exceptional knowledge of the Juvenile Court system, she not only kept me informed, but looked after me and my child's best interest. I would highly recommend her based on the above mentioned and her professionalism.

I helped my boss and boss's wife get through a criminal charge against her. I didn't know where to turn to, but when I searched for an attorney in Fullerton, Attorney Erika Becker showed up and several others. I contacted all of them, and she was the first to return my call within a day and realized she has a many years of law experience. When I met her, she explained details about what can happen to what she can do for us. Although, what she advised us wasn't the best outcome that we were hoping for, when the final outcome came out, she made it even better than what we had hoped for. There was a misdemeanor charge, 2 years of probation, 1 year of schooling...the charge was downgraded to infraction, no probation and no schooling! How awesome is that! We were excited and so glad that we hired her to represent us. Thank you Attorney Erika Becker and I am confident that she will help so many people like us and so good to know I found such a great attorney. So, glad that I met a great person, attorney, and I think she will make a great difference in our community. I definitely recommend her and I can't say enough about her! Great person! Thanks again, Attorney Erika Becker!

My world was turned upside down, after a silly mistake at the age of 23 landed me straight in Santa Ana County Jail facing up to 6 years. I called Erika on a Sunday, and she responded within two minutes. Ever since that conversation Erika has worked ferociously to defend me, and is the reason I am free today, clearing me of all felony counts. She has a huge heart and made me feel like family. She stopped at nothing to obtain justice for my life and my family, and for that I will never be able to repay her. Ericka was honest and professional, and is second to none in work ethic. Thank you so very much, you have changed my life.

George Karpouzis answered the phone right away when I called. I needed help with an immigration documentation issue and he was accommodating to meet with me the same day. During our conversation, he provided excellent advice and proceeded to work with me towards solving the issue. I had called multiple attorneys before him and they were unable to provide help in any meaningful way, but George knew what was needed right away. My issue went from a multi week struggle into a single effective session that provided all the answers and results required. Now that is great service! I wholeheartedly recommend George for your immigration needs as he is able, willing and certain on what needs to be done. I could not recommend him more! Thanks again George!

Attorney George Karpouzis is an extremely honest man who takes great pride in his work. You will speak and work with him directly which makes you feel safe and confident with your situation. I appreciate the fact that if I had a question or need he was the person answering my questions and not a staff member who is not invested in my case. He does great work and genuinely cares about his clients which, from my experience, most attorneys don't. I highly recommend him for any civil case you have and immigration needs as well. I hired him for my PERSONAL INJURY case. He made the process so much easier and I was compensated much more than I would've been had I not hired him. I've recommended him to my family and friends.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Fullerton, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
