“Bad!! wants $300 before you know if you want to hire them or not. Bad buisness they are not for the people they are for money.”

My wife called and asked specifically if they set up irrevocable trusts, she was told yes. We drove an hour to sit down with someone, she asked what we were looking to do, I said we wanted to set up an irrevocable trust, she interrupted me and said, “no no no no, that’s not what you want, you want a revocable trust, and we don’t really do irrevocable trusts anyway” An hour drive for a 5 minute meeting where I get not listened to, interrupted, and then shirked off. Unprofessional Don’t waste your time. The young lady at the front desk was very kind and welcoming, got us both cold bottled water and sat us in a conference room.

Had incompetent attorney that was not knowing her job how to argue about a property owner as I wanting family members off the property because they were freeloading not paying anything and not taking care of the property they were not supposed to have dogs or marijuana on the place and yet this attorney never brought that up. So I am stuck with 2 free loaders on the property and the judge denied the eviction this is pathetic they charge me over $12000 for nothing when I gciuld of gotten it done for a fraction of the cost it done it for a 1000 I hired them figuring that it would take it off my back since I had to take care of the trust of my dad's and my sister since she was severely critically ill. This company is not worth going through advised people to stay away and look better into decent attorneys that are willing to fight for you and not just take your money. The attorney I had was not prepared fully and understanding what kind of arguments that she needed to state for the judge the people I was evicting the family members they had a better argument than my attorney what a joke. I didn't want to give them the one star if it put 0 down I put 0 star

Terri Popkes, an Associate Attorney for the BPE Law Group, provided the support and facilitated what I needed, to begin and complete, the process of transferring my father’s name to my name on his deed after his passing. I first met Terri, when she provided a 30-minute, no fee, legal consultation. She was present for me, as she listened intently to my questions and concerns. I learned then that having her legal expertise and support, I would benefit best to complete the legal process, by extending our legal relationship beyond our 30-minute consult. Terri assisted me to navigate this process with ease, as the legal documents I needed to complete felt entirely foreign to me, not understanding the legal verbiage. I found her legal guidance beyond helpful, clarifying and discussing the meaning of each legal document. I was then able to reduce my emotional stress from feeling overwhelmed, trying to understand the legal process, then coming to a place where I was able to start movement in the completion of this legal task. Thank you, Terri, for your guidance. Terri provided a sense of trust, as she communicated promptly with me this entire process, as well as answering each of my questions, and providing the required legal documents required to make the deed change. I appreciate working with her legal team at BPE Law Group. They have been professional, respectful and prompt to clarify information I was provided. I am completing all the steps required, I learned much and feel confident with the process. I value all the support and guidance from Terri and her legal team at BPE. I highly recommend Terri Popkes, BPE Associate Attorney’s legal guidance regarding Real Estate Law. I will not hesitate to use her in the future.

I hired Milton Armistead for a will contest. He worked zealously and aggressively to meet my needs and I obtained more than I expected from my settlement. I felt his fees were reasonable given how hard he worked.

I have been working with the Porter Law group for over 15 years on many different business matters. Bill and his group have work with us on issues concerning construction, personnel and reviewing and writing complicated contracts. Bill’s counsel has helped us set up limited liability companies for real estate purchases and their management. I am always impressed with The Porter Law Firm’s expedient approach and follow through to complete our needs. We continue to use the Porter Law Group and recommend them to anyone that has a need for sound legal counsel.

Bill has been my attorney for almost ten years now and has helped my firm with contract negotiations, corporate formations, and other business transactions. He is extremely reliable, helpful, and delivers great quality work and legal counsel. Many acquaintances of mine within the business community that are construction contractors think very highly of him for the same reasons as well as his deep knowledge of construction law. I highly recommend Bill for counsel.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Gold River, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
