My husband was injured at work and was up against a large corporation. Evan Kantz, Esq jumped in and assured him that he was there to help. He was excellent and went to bat for my husband's rights. Evan's expertise and follow through settled the case in my husband's favor. Both monetarily and with future medical. He is the best!!!

During a physically, mentally and emotionally trying time for me I worked with Evan and on my case and he was highly qualified, attentive and professional. He was well versed on my type of case and kept me in the loop during the entire process. I was able to lean on him for full transparency and true facts. He fully advised me on every option, and made me aware of any possible ramifications for my situation. My attorney was always available for me to schedule a call to go over any questions or concerns. I really appreciate the support and guidance I received from Evan. I would highly recommend him and I’m so thankful for the passion and dedication he has shown on my case which has led to great results and a better outcome for myself.

Evan S. Kantz is the best Workers’ Compensation Law attorney I have ever worked with. From our first meeting, he explained everything to me in simple terms I could easily understand and was always very responsive when I had questions outside of our scheduled meetings. I not only recommend Evan, but I guarantee once you have used his services… you too will look no further. He and his great legal team composed by Chris Malter, Alma Oseguera and Robert Mueller, respond in an extremely timely matter, he and his team are very knowledgeable, and trustworthy people. There is no other attorney that will work as hard for you. I used Evan’s legal services and found he is a wonderful attorney to work with. I could not have been happier with this experience, and I will never go anywhere else. If anyone is looking for a knowledgeable attorney in the area of Workers’ Compensation Law, then look no further and ask for Evan S. Kantz at Savin-Bursk Law.

I had a great experience with Evan! Evan Kantz was my attorney for a workers comp dispute and he went above and beyond to help me with my case. Evan seems to be very skillful in handling negotiations on his clients' behalf against opposing parties so I was very pleased when he got me better than expected results throughout the process and on the final resolution. Becoming a client with Evan will save you a lot of time and headaches, and things will go very smoothly if you are a cooperative client.

I'm sure there are lawyers that good, and some that, although want to help you out, can't really organize their cases... Evan, though, is an extraordinary attorney. He will do all that you expect a good lawyer to do and then go beyond that. He took all the time needed to make sure I understood the process of the case and included my husband. He listened to both our concerns and answered all our questions. More importantly he made sure I was relaxed and relieved about the case. As soon as consulted with him, my anxiety about the case in itself had disappeared. I can also say that the reward of the case was several times over what I had expected. I have limitations and he made sure to accommodate these every time. He always kept me up to date, and explained things again to me when I would forget. He set himself at my level and was very empathetic. That was important for my situation. Without him, I know I would have had a less than favorable outcome, and who have dealt with the stress of the case caused by the insurance. Had it been a different lawyer... I can't say because all the others I consulted with did not make it personal to them. I couldn't go with any other attorney because they didn't stand out like Evan.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Granada Hills, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
