I am a Legal Document Assistant, registered and bonded per California Business & Professions Code Sections 6400-6415, which authorizes me to prepare and file legal documents for self-represented individuals at a client's specific direction. I have known Mrs. Wilson professionally since 2009, and she is my "go-to" attorney whenever I encounter someone who simply does not fit the "self-help" approach to family law matters. EVERY SINGLE PERSON who I have referred to Mrs. Wilson has always called or emailed me back to thank me profusely for the referral. The consistent theme of the feedback is that Mrs. Wilson was able to efficiently help them, explained the law in a way that they could understand without all of the legalese, and that they found extremely good value for the money they spent on her services (whether on a limited scope consultation basis, or by hiring her for full representation). In essence, the people I have referred to her all have consistently felt the same way as pretty much every other person who has commented below. More specifically, I had a client who came to me to prepare documents in an existing case. After serving the prepared documents on the other side, the other party requested a hearing, at which point I referred the client to Mrs. Wilson for representation. After the hearing, the client called me and personally told me that the client felt that Mrs. Wilson had “accomplished more in one hearing than the client's previous attorney had done over the course of a year and a half”. I would say that this particular comment speaks volumes about Mrs. Wilson's ability as a zealous advocate for her clients.

I was involved in a bitter and complex child custody battle against one of the most renowned and highest paid law firms. My prior attorneys lost at every hearing, even though they were also well known. However, a friend referred me to Ms. Wilson and everything changed. When Ms. Wilson took on my case not only did she win for me but justice finally prevailed as a result of Ms. Wilson's outstanding skills and guidance. It is clear the Ms. Wilson is savvy in legal strategy, discovery, and trial. I highly recommend Ms. Wilson as she is clearly one of the top and most skilled family law attorney in California.

Mrs. Wilson is smart, direct, and trustworthy. I felt like all the other attorney's I consulted were just trying to tell me what I wanted to hear and I paid the price for it. Mrs. Wilson let me know that she couldn't fix what happened in the past but that we could improve things going forward and she did. I wasted a lot of money on attorney's before I was blessed enough to be referred to Mrs. Wilson by a friend. I have and will refer friends and family to her in the future.

During a physically, mentally and emotionally trying time for me I worked with Evan and on my case and he was highly qualified, attentive and professional. He was well versed on my type of case and kept me in the loop during the entire process. I was able to lean on him for full transparency and true facts. He fully advised me on every option, and made me aware of any possible ramifications for my situation. My attorney was always available for me to schedule a call to go over any questions or concerns. I really appreciate the support and guidance I received from Evan. I would highly recommend him and I’m so thankful for the passion and dedication he has shown on my case which has led to great results and a better outcome for myself.

Evan S. Kantz is the best Workers’ Compensation Law attorney I have ever worked with. From our first meeting, he explained everything to me in simple terms I could easily understand and was always very responsive when I had questions outside of our scheduled meetings. I not only recommend Evan, but I guarantee once you have used his services… you too will look no further. He and his great legal team composed by Chris Malter, Alma Oseguera and Robert Mueller, respond in an extremely timely matter, he and his team are very knowledgeable, and trustworthy people. There is no other attorney that will work as hard for you. I used Evan’s legal services and found he is a wonderful attorney to work with. I could not have been happier with this experience, and I will never go anywhere else. If anyone is looking for a knowledgeable attorney in the area of Workers’ Compensation Law, then look no further and ask for Evan S. Kantz at Savin-Bursk Law.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Granada Hills, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
