I've dealt with many lawyers throughout the years of my life, all very professional and well educated. But with Lisa, it was a whole different experience. She took on a case for a good friend of mine that was fighting his third strike with a life sentence. Lisa attacked the case from many different angles and was able to walk with a dismissal. My buddy was able to walk free the same day. The way Lisa covered every detail in the case was the reason for our success. Truly grateful for all she did for us. Highly recommend Lisa as a lawyer.

Lisa came to my rescue for a serious legal matter that had potential to ruin my professional career as a nurse. My case was not the result of any wrong doing out my part but often times the situation system doesn’t care about things right or wrong. Dealing with legal system was one of the most stressful things I had ever deal with in my life. Lisa was always there when I needed her and gave me calm reassurance throughout out my case. Her professionalism and confidence gave me the mental and emotional strength Carry on day to day. Ultimately, her hard work got my case expunged. She went the extra mile for me and helped me to resolve my issue with nursing board too. No other attorney would have been this dedicated. Truly grateful for her

Lisa Simons has been helping our family for quite some time now by representing a loved one across multiple cases throughout the years. Whether it was gun charges, violation of probabtion (VOPs,) or anything in between (or worse.) - Lisa was able to get exceptional results for the charges at hand. As far as talent, Lisa is as good as it gets and I do not say that lightly. Her ability to see charges from different perspectives of the law and how to most properly fight them really does set her apart from any other lawyer I’ve met. Her creativity and timing in applying law is truly unmatched and we couldn’t be any more thankful for how much she’s helped our family throughout the years. Her results truly speak for themselves, and without getting into too much detail I will mention that in the most recent charge, a loved one was looking at a potential of several years behind bars. Lisa was somehow able to get all charges against him dropped and somehow even pulled off getting his probation that he was still currently under dropped, as well. How does she do it?! I’m sure if she told everyone there wouldn’t be a need to hire her. What really sets Lisa apart is her care for clients in her cases. All I can do is speak for our experience, but I know it doesn’t just stop at ours. Lisa has an empathy that you can feel when explaining your situation, and you never feel judged by her either. She genuinely cares about your case and you as a person, not just a client. Even going as far to check up with you from time to time on how your life has been (after representing you.) It is this care that I believe drives Lisa in her work, and has led her to the success she’s had in her craft. If you are looking for a lawyer, I can say with the utmost confidence: You will not find anyone better than Lisa Simmons. From everyone in our family, Thank you, Lisa!

If you're searching for a legal champion to navigate the complexities of the justice system, Lisa is your unwavering advocate. From the onset, her dedication to my cases was nothing short of extraordinary. She had represented me in a criminal matter and a potential Violation of Probation (VOP), which was not just. I was held for 2 weeks during potential VOP but she proved that there was no violation and made sure that all of my mandatory classes were accounted for as the DA tried to persuade the Judge to revoke my probation and start over my 52 classes all over again, where I had already made 28 out of the 52. She is consistently been there for me, whenever I was caught in a dilemma on probation. Another instance where Lisa embodied a Guardian Angel for me was when I had a roommate learn about my probation and used it against me and called the police because of simple house disagreements, I called Lisa right away and no report was taken. I could have been looking at 5 years for violating my probation! Lisa's seamlessly blends legal mastery with a genuine commitment to their clients' well-being. Throughout every phase of my legal ordeal, she displayed a profound understanding of criminal law. Their strategic brilliance and meticulous attention to detail were evident in every aspect of my case. I've even retained her services to expunge my record, and she has exceeded all expectations in doing so. If you find yourself in need of a legal warrior who will fearlessly defend your rights, Lisa is the unequivocal choice.

I reached out to Lisa while facing a very tough legal matter that was time sensitive. She returned my call even though she was on vacation, and it was immediately obvious she understood and she cared. She directed me on the best way forward. She called me back to see how things were progressing, and I'm happy to report that as of today, my matter is almost completely resolved with a result that was above and beyond what I had ever thought possible. The personal professionalism of Lisa Simons and her knowledge of California law is unparalleled in her field. If you're looking for an attorney that will be there for you, and knows what they're doing, you've found that in Lisa Simons.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Hayward, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
